Tuesday, August 30 2016. In 1930 Guernsey Brown and William Oyer from Kakaako Mission assisted in the construction of a church building for the Nanakuli Open Door Sunday School. Which had been meeting under a Kiawe tree. In 1935 the group changed its name to Nanakuli Congregational Church. And reconstructed an army barrack for their chapel. The church continued to function as an independent Hawaiian church, but the congregation struggled, sometimes without a pastor.
