Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad. There might be a few more cracks than usual in this one. Friday, August 31, 2012. Senegal, di na la name. And now for a final collection of taxi cab musings. Looking for a cab and remarking at how this places has changed. Sadly, they're still paving paradise- and I'm wondering what the corniche will look like in ten years. As we roll along I still scan the ocean and try not to reflect too much upon what the past 33 months have meant to me. Luckily my taximan drives w...

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad: The Innocents Abroad: Mama Africa

http://www.uiscebatha.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-innocents-abroad-mama-africa.html

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad. There might be a few more cracks than usual in this one. Sunday, August 5, 2012. The Innocents Abroad: Mama Africa. You've got a long way to go before you can get to this final stage of air travel in Senegal. Read on. If you've ever taken a flight from the Léopold Sédar Senghor Airport, then you will probably understand a little about where I'm coming from in this blog entry. I will have you know that I am not the person who coined the term "Mama Africa". It was in f...

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad: The Innocents Abroad: Doing Without

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad. There might be a few more cracks than usual in this one. Friday, August 10, 2012. The Innocents Abroad: Doing Without. It's going to be impossible for me to tackle this subject without inciting a few accusations of hypocrisy, but I'm going to do my best and write it anyway. Doing without. These are the two words that I hesitate to use. What exactly does that mean, anyway? Going without in West Africa? I mean, my beautiful modern apartment boasts American-procured items l...

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad. There might be a few more cracks than usual in this one. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Some things never go out of style. Not too many days left here in Dakar, and while the weather alternates between le soleil ça tappe. The sun is beating down) and mon dieu. This rain is no joke. I have sought calming activities spent indoors with good friends. She's got a full studio at home, but this is where she does alterations on the fly. Listen: Marie is a really talented tailor&#46...

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad: Moving Day

http://www.uiscebatha.blogspot.com/2012/08/moving-day.html

Megan's Third Junior Year Abroad. There might be a few more cracks than usual in this one. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail. Thoreau (and definitely not Megan). I can scarcely believe it to be true, but it would appear that Days of Our Senegalese Lives is coming to an end. Today we're her...

The Hensarlings: April 2011

http://hensarlings.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Coming up on month 8 here in Brussels, and we're still having an absolute blast! We keep pinching ourselves, but luckily we never wake up. Here's what we've been up to:. Took a day trip to Ghent, Belgium. With our good friend Erin. It's definitely one of our favorite cities in the country, with a great mix of old and new architecture. It's also about 35 minutes from home, so that makes it handy. After our great time in Italy we caught a ferry from Bari, Italy to Bar, Montenegro.

Megan, how do you call this? My Italian friend reaches up and touches the long rectangular flap attached to the inside roof of his car. I pause and think for a moment. My eyes recognize the object and I comprehend its function but beyond these visual cues I am incapable of answering his question definitively. I have a complete mental block. Or a sun blocker? For the better, language keeps evolving. What were these called before? Whatever the case, this sounds way better. What does that usually say back a...
