Schizophrenia - A Carer's Journal
http://mindriddles.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
A journal by the father of a son diagnosed with schizophrenia. Sunday, January 31, 2010. It was emphasised at the meeting the previous week how important it was to try to get Sam out more and back onto the upward spiral. So we were keen to encourage them to do something to try to begin that process rather than wait for the opposite. Said Sam as she approached. "I'm fine," she replied but before she could tell Sam that she had arranged for him to go out he slapped her across the face with no warning.

Schizophrenia - A Carer's Journal
http://mindriddles.blogspot.com/2004_02_01_archive.html
A journal by the father of a son diagnosed with schizophrenia. Friday, February 27, 2004. I saw Sam again this afternoon. Fortunately I got to see his key nurse first. I raised the issues that there had been contradictions between the consultant and the ward. The consultant saw no progress. The ward saw significant progress. The consultant wanted an increase in anti-psychotic medication. The ward wanted an introduction to "mood enhancement" medication and reduction in anti-psychotics. I went on to see Sam.

Schizophrenia - A Carer's Journal
http://mindriddles.blogspot.com/2004_07_01_archive.html
A journal by the father of a son diagnosed with schizophrenia. Saturday, July 31, 2004. I was feeling guilty. I didn't want to visit Sam today. The thought depressed me. Last time I saw him he was so poorly he'd hardly been able to hold a conversation. I just wasn't looking forward to seeing him like that again. I didn't want the hour and a half drive there and the hour and a half back. The traffic, the spray from the lorries on the motorway, the tension in my back. Posted by Mike @ 9:39 pm. Jane had to ...

Schizophrenia - A Carer's Journal
http://mindriddles.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
A journal by the father of a son diagnosed with schizophrenia. Sunday, April 11, 2010. There is a lot to say. Ups and downs . But it has recently sometimes become a stress to write about it rather than a release. So if I have been here less often I am sure you will understand. Though I am sure you will read about it all here soon. Posted by Mike @ 6:40 pm. Friday, April 02, 2010. Posted by Mike @ 4:33 pm. Thursday, April 01, 2010. We've seen Sam lots over the last few weeks. He's phoned as well. Please f...

Schizophrenia - A Carer's Journal
http://mindriddles.blogspot.com/2004_03_01_archive.html
A journal by the father of a son diagnosed with schizophrenia. Wednesday, March 31, 2004. When we arrived back on Monday we phoned and Sam seemed fine. Tuesday I did various jobs and then popped over to see Sam about six. I met a nurse at the ward. His first words were to ask how I was. It felt genuine and very thoughtful. It is thoughtfulness like that which helps keep us almost sane. Today Jane phoned the ward to see how things were. The ward manager was so positive. Sam had said he was no long...His b...

Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare: There are days...
http://expat-on-benefits.blogspot.com/2013/02/there-are-days.html
Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare. Life as a bloody foreigner on the dole in the United Kingdom. Tuesday, 19 February 2013. I have to say that there are days when having Complex Type 2 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dysthymia, Fibromyalgia, and a Hiatus Hernia is a bit of a drag. Lately I've been spicing it up with panic attacks and mild paranoia. I know that people are not aiming to harm me, but try telling my endocrine system! I'm not sure how much longer I can live like this. When I was a young ...

Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare: August 2013
http://expat-on-benefits.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare. Life as a bloody foreigner on the dole in the United Kingdom. Thursday, 1 August 2013. Discovered today that Cambridge City Council can only pay out £330 per month. On the subject of ESA I started preparing my appeal today (on the GL24 form) as the medical report finally arrived after two weeks. All they had to do was print it out and post it! Back in June 2012 I got this: " Mr X does have a Limited Capacity for Work Related Activity. 8221; [emphasis added]. If any...

Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare: May 2012
http://expat-on-benefits.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Confessions of an Immigrant on Welfare. Life as a bloody foreigner on the dole in the United Kingdom. Sunday, 13 May 2012. Got my letter today and the form, but only after a very weasely phone call. What with all this stuff about "may affect your benefits" - you must fill in this form or it "may affect your benefits". What they mean is FILL IN THE THIS FORM OR WE'LL CUT OFF YOUR BENEFIT. Why don't they just come out and say it? And what are they still saying 'You may be asked to come to an assessment"?
