BIRDMAD: September 2013
http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Friday, 27 September 2013. Spotted crake at Oare keeps us waiting. Today I went with David Campbell to Oare Marshes. There were a few Curlew sandpipers, ruff, dunlins and bar-tailed godwits. There were quite a few golden plovers, lapwings, shovelers, redshank and teal, and a whole host of black-tailed godwits. However the main attraction was the spotted crake which had been there for a few days. Nothing for it but to wait for it to show again. A nice end to the afternoon. Links to this post. Monday, 10 September 2012. Long journey for short-billed dowitcher. Sure enough, that was it. A couple of the others arrived but the bird moved into a clump of reed and stayed hidden for several minutes before emerging again. It was reasonably close but still tended to hide in the reeds a lot. I was back home at 12.00 noon. A second lifer in 2 days. OMG, I hope I'm not becoming a twitcher again! Short-billed dowitcher - juvenile. Short-billed dowitcher - juvenile. Links to this post. Did we see it? Monda...

Monday, 5 August 2013. A WEEK ON THE IOM (not the Isle of Man) - July 2013. No, not the Isle of Man, the Isle of May! I hear you all cry. Well, it’s a small island 8 kilometres off the Scottish coast in the Firth of Forth. It’s a kilometre and a half long and a few hundred metres wide. It's here on Google Maps:. Https:/ maps.google.co.uk/maps? The lighthouse is quite attractive. Here is a picture of it from up the hill:. In fact, the accommodation was very nice. Proper (bunk) bedrooms, double glazed ...

Friday, 19 April 2013. Spring has tentatively sprung! Although it's still rather cold, there are signs that Spring is in the air. Here are one or two new arrivals at Canons Farm. The dunnock isn't a new arrival but he's OK! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). For Philip Wallace, Notary Public. Click here: www.uknotary.uk. Other Blogs I like. Tuesday, 3 April 2012. Cute little owls and more Short-eared owl photos. After some tantalising views of 2 little owls at Cobham I had to return when the light was better. I braved the rush hour traffic and arrived at about 0800. The sun was shining and the light was perfect. Would the owls be there? Well, yes, they were. Shortly after I arrived they both appeared in their hole in the branch and looked out at me. Cute! Little owls. How sweet! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

BIRDMAD: May 2013
http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 28 May 2013. A glorious weekend and 2 British ticks. We planned to go to the caravan at Chichester this weekend as we had tickets for 'The Pyjama Game'. Before that, on Friday, I went with David to see the red-rumped swallow at Beddington. I've never seen one in UK so it was an easy tick. I haven't been trying very hard recently to build up my British list, preferring to spend my time abroad seeing and photographing new birds. Don't worry, my blog about Nepal is nearly ready! We moved on, scanni...

BIRDMAD: October 2013
http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 6 October 2013. Showy shrike on Sheppey. Mark Stanley and I wandered down to Capel Fleet on Sheppey to see the lesser grey shrike discovered yesterday. It was a bit of a trek over the fields but there it was doing what shrikes do (flycatching from the top of a bush). We approached to within 200 metres of it but there was some heat haze as it was a beautiful sunny day. Watched it for a couple of hours and then came away. Links to this post. Friday, 19 July 2013. Travels in Nepal 2013 Part 4 - The trek to Gandruk! Chitwan was technically the end of the basic tour. Before we leave Chitwan, here is a hornets nest or two under the bridge:. All of us except Will had signed up for the trekking extension to Gandruk. Half way to Pokhara, Nepal's second city, we said goodbye to Will. A car was waiting at a bridge to take him back to Kathmandu for his flight home. We were sorry to see him go. Lynne with three local children. Plumbeous redstart - male.

BIRDMAD: January 2013
http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 1 January 2013. Gambia again - a week in the sun. Yes, I know I went to the. Last year but this year Lynne came with me. It was just a week and we agreed that I would go birdwatching in the morning and Lynne would read her Kindle on the beach and get a tan. It worked out something like that but with a few unexpected twists. Kombo Beach hotel. We had a ground floor room. Not exactly 'a la mode' but it kept the sun off! In fact, later, I realised it was a great advantage. Pied kingfisher, hovering.

Saturday, 29 June 2013. Birdwatching in Nepal 2013 - Part 2 - Koshi. The following day, Monday 18 March, we took a morning flight to Koshi. Suchit made sure we got seats on the right side of the plane to be able to see the mountains. He pointed out Annapurna, Everest and several others during the short flight. As we neared Koshi we could see from the air the huge scale of the Koshi River. Koshi camp showing the tents under the solid canopies. Bronze-winged jacanas getting to know each other! 65279;In the...
