The Curmudgeon Speaks: January 2013
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Friday, January 11, 2013. Why all the hoo-ha all of a sudden about dealing with long-term national debt - especially when we're in the middle of a long and devastating recession? Europe is learning that austerity is the completely wrong approach to dealing with recession and job loss; it makes things worse, and quickly. Debt can be dealt with in time, after the immediate economic problems are addressed. So deal with the current economy first - spend whatever needs to be s...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: July 2009
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Wednesday, July 08, 2009. In America stinks. We pay more than other civilized countries, and get worse results. We wouldn't accept this when buying a car, would we? Imagine comparing your car to your neighbors - I paid twice what you did, and have twice as many repairs! What kind of value is that? Plans) If we go to change plans (when we move, or when we change jobs), many of us are denied coverage because of " pre. Let's look at these points one by one. This one's really...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: December 2012
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Friday, December 21, 2012. 1 If we say that schoolteachers need to be armed or have armed guards, aren't we essentially saying that our system of public laws and law enforcement isn't working? Wonder how our police officers feel about that.). 3 Speaking of guns in the hands of teachers, isn't this the same society that undervalues and underpays teachers? So let's go ahead and arm them and make them responsible for school security, too. Where's the logic in that? I believe...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: July 2010
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Thursday, July 29, 2010. As if I didn't dislike the Kindle enough as-is, my brand-new Kindle broke just 24 hours into use. (The screen went all wonky.) So I not only don't like how it works, it simply doesn't work. What kind of piece of crap is that? Or is it simply more proof that Amazon should stick to selling other people's stuff, instead of trying to make their own; they're really kind of sucky as a tech hardware company.). Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Regarding the iPho...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: June 2009
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Saturday, June 27, 2009. Michael Jackson is dead, and the media is going apeshit. Coverage. Frankly, I've had enough. It's just not that important. Well, other than the 24/7 mournathon. A few squeaks here and there and the introduction of the moonwalk - which was itself an appropriation of existing dance steps. I'll give him one thing; he helped to turn pop concerts into singing-and-dancing extravaganzas, complete with synchronized dance steps and a troupe of scantily...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: Entitlements
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2013/01/entitlements.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Friday, January 04, 2013. I am tired of all the talk about "entitlement" spending - Medicare, Social Security, and so forth. These programs are not "entitlements," they are commitments. We as a society (and our government) have committed to pay people from these funds. If we cut these "entitlements," we're really reneging on our commitments - legal, moral, and otherwise. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. My Other Blogs and Websites.

The Curmudgeon Speaks: February 2013

Where reasonable minds disagree. Monday, February 25, 2013. This is a transcript of the speech I gave in accepting my induction onto the Ben Davis High School Alumni Wall of Fame, on February 23, 2013. I work with words. I am a writer. A wordsmith. I put together words to form sentences, and sentences to form paragraphs, and paragraphs to create whole narratives. I understand that technical training and standardized tests have their place, but they only take you as far as everybody else - average. Le...

The Curmudgeon Speaks: February 2009
http://curmudgeonspeaks.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Where reasonable minds disagree. Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Excessive rhetoric by the media doesn't help things. In particular, there's little good to be said about the inflammatory. Ranting head Rick Santelli. About the Obama administration subsidizing. On time for the past twenty years or so, that kind of burns my ass. I play by the rules and don't even get a thank you note, while the bums who skip their payments get a hand out - subsidized by me! Thanks, Big Government, for the appreciation. Still,...
