NASA Sample Return Robot Challenge. The main objective of the challenge is to develop an autonomous capability to locate and retrieve specific sample types from various locations over a wide and varied terrain in a GPS-denied environment, and return those samples to a designated zone in a reasonable amount of time with limited mapping data. The intent is to advance autonomic robotics and remote manipulator technology. This Centennial Challenge competition has a total prize purse of $1.5 million.
