Harvard College Women's Center. My Feminism is Supporting Each Other in Solidarity. October 8, 2014. October 8, 2014. I’m writing this blog post in the aftermath. Of a challenging weekend for the Harvard community. Hundreds of racist, misogynist, and violently threatening emails were sent. From presumably the same individual. Further, soon after the threatening emails were sent, another email. Hit the inboxes of students who had received the first threat. This is targeted harassment. Hands in Solidarity,...

Originally posted on Manifesta Magazine. 8216;s website, reposted here by the author. It’s hard to leave something you love. But when those somethings cause me as much stress and tears as they do joy and fulfillment, I question my role in them. I still feel that way sometimes. I have a word for it now: burnout. So how can we overcome burnout? I am making a conscious choice to priori...

A Female Version – Harvard College Women's Center
https://hcwc.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/a-female-version
Harvard College Women's Center. September 29, 2014. At the age of 10, I started performing in school plays and going to drama camps over the summer. While my passion for theater took a nosedive once I hit high school and discovered I lacked any hint of talent, at the time, my parents and teachers fed my young ego by telling me I was an amazing actress. I wasn’t far off. A quick dictionary search for the terms actor and actress yields definitions, respectively, of one who. Of an age when we also used the ...

To Be Female and Online – Harvard College Women's Center

Harvard College Women's Center. To Be Female and Online. September 17, 2014. Content warning: sexual harassment, violent language. As Donna Haraway has articulated, we are cyborgs. The primary example that comes to mind for me is the sexual harassment and violent threats received by various female public figures via social media. Between the intensely personal threats. Targeted at Anita Sarkeesian and the leaked nude photographs (and ensuing slut-shaming and victim-blaming) of J ennifer Lawrence. The Sup...

He, She, and They – Harvard College Women's Center

Harvard College Women's Center. He, She, and They. November 5, 2014. While you might expect me to opine right now about U.S. politics or Harvard policies, today I do not take issue with Congress or with the Harvard administration. Rather, I take issue with the English language. For a brief moment, I’d like to shift the focus away from arguments that are pro-war, pro-choice, pro-Obama, or pro-guns, and address another important issue: pro-nouns. Appropriately refers to this practice as whiplash grammar.

Harvard College Women's Center. On Inclusivity at Harvard. May 18, 2016. In just over a week, I’ll be graduating from this place. My friends and I are beginning to pack boxes and open up new parts of our lives, but this week has been a time of reflection. After thinking a lot about the people and things that have transformed me and given me meaning, I’ve realized how important the Harvard College Women’s Center has been for me. As Radcliffe and Harvard began to co-educationalize over the years, several.
