Inconvenient News: Newt Gingrich, Loving America One Woman at a Time
http://smintheusblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/newt-gingrich-loving-america-one-woman.html
Wednesday, March 09, 2011. Newt Gingrich, Loving America One Woman at a Time. Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, a serial adulterer, has helpfully explained to TV evangelist Pat Robertson’s network that some "not appropriate" things "happened in [his] life" partly due to his patriotism. And his superb work ethic. And thirdly, Newt plans to trumpet his squalid record as further evidence he’s a super duper patriot. I can already envisage his campaign motto for 2012:. Loving America One Woman at a Time!

Inconvenient News: Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic, and journalistic ethics
http://smintheusblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/jeffrey-goldberg-atlantic-and.html
Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic, and journalistic ethics. On Friday, just after the horrific attacks in Norway, Jeffrey Goldberg posted this two-paragraph screed, Mumbai Comes to Norway,. Since then no apology has been forthcoming from Goldberg. Quite the contrary, on Saturday he doubled down, posting On Suspecting al Qaeda in the Norway Attacks. This despite the fact that James Fallows on Saturday rebuked the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin and called for an apology. For her ow...

Inconvenient News: No Shame at The Atlantic?
http://smintheusblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/no-shame-at-atlantic.html
Wednesday, July 27, 2011. No Shame at The Atlantic? The purpose here is to describe the events as I understand them and assess them in detail. N Friday July 22, Jeffrey Goldberg posted Mumbai Comes to Norway. The link is to a cache of the original version of the post. The text reads:. Of course, asking the question, "Why did jihadists attack (x)? Journalistic ethics, which don’t encourage rushing to judgment, certainly would have required Goldberg to issue a retraction as soon as possible after it became...

Time Travel Toaster: April 2010
http://timetraveltoaster.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Sending household appliances whirling through the fourth dimension since Twenty Aught Five. Wednesday, April 07, 2010. Public transit is pretty nice in DC. You have trains and busses all over town, and they run pretty frequently. By all accounts, it's a world-class city with a word-class transit system. Except that the people in charge of it are really, really stupid when it comes to technology. That's a bold claim, but I'm prepared to back it up:. Improves customers' access to information about the Metr...
