meg is in Africa: Turning a corner.
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2010/01/turning-corner.html
Thursday, January 28, 2010. I'm home. I write it as if it were a recent phenomenon. However, the unbelievable truth (time goes by so quickly) is I've been home for more than a month already. Home is home. Familiar and warm (although considerably colder in temperature then Benin). It's always a wonderful thing to rediscover old haunts and well-studied faces. Returning to Bucks County is always a good thing. We must choose what we love. And where our heart is, our treasure will follow. Passion and ...The k...

meg is in Africa: December 2009
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 31, 2009. Oceane at screening day. Last week at 1opm, after 36 hours of delays and travel, I safely arrived home. It's great to be home. A little overwhelming, but I am re-adjusting to the excitements and perils of the first world. Here is a lingering patient story about baby Oceane to ring in the New Year. Oceane had an encephalocele- a rare neural tube defect characterized by sac-like protrusions of neural tissue through openings in the skull. A small gap in the back of her head,...

meg is in Africa: Pascal Gbaglo - Agriculture Knowledge Is a Transforming Power
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2009/12/pascal-gbaglo-agriculture-knowledge-is.html
Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Pascal Gbaglo - Agriculture Knowledge Is a Transforming Power. Pascal Gbaglo is a farmer in Hévié, Benin. Life has always been a struggle for him and his family. Excited, he began attending every class. The agriculture training program, "Food For Life," teaches biblical organic farming principles, which focus on being a good steward of the land. Pascal began incorporating these principles into his farming practices at home. In a very short time, he noticed someth...And they ...

meg is in Africa: July 2009
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2009. Cleft lip/palate repairs are hands down my favorite surgery on the ship. I am always amazed that in only a few hours, we can completely transform a life. Babies with clefts often have difficulties feeding. As a result, many are underweight-too underweight for surgery. Mercy Ships has a feeding program to help these kids get big enough for surgery. Mother's are given formula and routinely come to the ship to have the babies weighed. It took courage for her to love her baby. That...

meg is in Africa: We are rocking and rolling (literally).
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2009/12/we-are-rocking-and-rolling-literally.html
Thursday, December 17, 2009. We are rocking and rolling (literally). Last night was a sleepless nice for the majority of the. Crew Not because we are anticipating our arrival in Tenerife. Not because we are excited for Christmas. Not because we are stressed out about our work. The ship has encountered swells which have caused a fast and consistent rolling of the ship from side to side. At times, we've puckered up and down. If you look carefully, you can see the water moving in my water bottle. Garden Val...

meg is in Africa: May 2009
http://megisinafrica.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2009. This past week was my first true southern experience. I spent the first half of the week at a writer's conference in Asheville, North Carolina, and the weekend in Nashville, Tennessee (I promise the rhyming was unintentional.). It was a good week, filled with conversations, people watching, and the phrase's ' y'all' and "fixin' . I love seeing how other people live, and found the laid-back vibe of Nashville quite charming. Friday, May 15, 2009. Monday, May 11, 2009. For the past fe...
