Sunday, August 16, 2015. Full production at the rocket factory. Now that I am done with travel for a bit, I can spend some time building rockets. This is a good thing, because the Geezer TARC launch is just around the corner! From left - #2, Nemesis (in white primer and 2 pieces), Quest Astra. In back), and Estes Sizzler clone (Click to enlarge). Squirrel Works Vulture (from the Squirrel Works web site. Estes Sizzler in the 1985 catalog (Click to enlarge). Lists are only guidelines anyway. Rocketeer's Corner: July 2015
http://billsrockets.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. A drag of a topic. As I mentioned in previous posts, this year's TARC competition will probably see many teams struggling to loft their two eggs to altitude without busting the weight limit on the rocket. Most teams use the Tim Allen philosophy when it comes to increasing altitude - use a bigger motor (more power! Rocksim screen capture showing Cd override panel (Click to enlarge). Effect of varying the Cd. Rule 1: USE GOOD WORKMANSHIP. Rule 2: ALIGN FINS AND LAUNCH LUGS PROPERLY.

Sunday, May 31, 2015. As I begin construction of my first Geezer TARC rocket, I find myself confronted by a sobering aspect of this year's competition. Weight. As I ponder egg protection, I have made good progress on my first entry - a 4 engine cluster I call "Nemesis", after the Greek goddess of revenge. Hopefully, she will not end up too fat to fly. Open Rocket simulation of Nemesis under power. Monday, May 18, 2015. A Geezer's thoughts on the 2016 TARC challenge. Have fun in Paris! Altitude goal for q...

Rocketeer's Corner: November 2014
http://billsrockets.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. The progress in modern electronics never ceases to amaze me - I always thought that the Perfectflite PNUT - a scant 0.7 x 3" in dimensions - was small, especially given the wealth of data it provides. However, there are some very nice small altimeters that don't connect to a computer's USB port. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Jolly Logic Altimeter 2. My latest acquisition is Perfectflite's latest product - the Firefly. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Bring out yer dead!

http://billsrockets.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Weather this month has positively sucked - bitterly cold and marked by freezing precipitation. This past week saw a major snow event; Huntsville received 8 inches of snow in a single day! From left: Beulah, Big Bertha, and a clone of the Canaroc Green Hornet,. Seriously in need of sanding and a second primer coat. In front of the. Rockets are some of the parts to a Centuri Micro-Probe clone. Should be appropriate for the rocket's name - what would a Beulah look like? Being a ...
