UnclePhool On The Road: Puyehue Ash
http://unclephooltravels.blogspot.com/2012/01/puyehue-ash.html
UnclePhool On The Road. Sharing my adventures with friends and family. Saturday, January 28, 2012. Fields and happy little forests with leaves dusted as if by Bob Ross. Cows standing in their pastures with ash piled on their back. Campgrounds that were likely green, now just dusty ash. Wispy ash clouds coming off mountain tops like spindrift off Everest. Mountain passes that look like the Rockies in color, but this 'snow' will not melt any time soon. UnclePhool, Dave, and Deniece. View my complete profile.

UnclePhool On The Road. Sharing my adventures with friends and family. Monday, January 30, 2012. Day 10 - San Martin de Ls Andes. Labels: Chile - Argentina. Sunday, January 29, 2012. Days 8 and 9 - Villa Traful and the Ruta de Las Siete Lagos. Villa Traful is small, only 540 residents. Usually they are full with tourists this time of year, but, again, the Puyehue effects are being felt. So we had the place pretty much to ourselves. The cattle wander down the street back to the barn to be milk...Mountain ...
UnclePhool On The Road: London Weekend
http://unclephooltravels.blogspot.com/2012/11/london-weekend.html
UnclePhool On The Road. Sharing my adventures with friends and family. Sunday, November 4, 2012. I needed to get away. Too many work days without a break and I had to escape. This week sort of came together during a series of conversations that all pointed at the UK for some R&R. Football, Scotch, cycling friends, a new bike. One last bit of culture before I leave London was to stop by Westminster Cathedral for the Sunday evening organ recitals. Impressive. Tonights was a Sonata on Psalm 93. ...
UnclePhool On The Road: Rotterdam
http://unclephooltravels.blogspot.com/2012/12/rotterdam.html
UnclePhool On The Road. Sharing my adventures with friends and family. Monday, December 24, 2012. This year for Christmas, our family is taking a cruise along the Rhine. My brother and I could each get time off before the cruise started to go to Europe early and play around a bit before joining the rest of the lot. Andy is a pretty big boat nerd, so he chose Rotterdam since for nearly 30 years it had been the busiest seaport in the world. Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands. View my complete profile.

UnclePhool: Ranch Dressing
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2012/11/ranch-dressing.html
Tuesday, November 13, 2012. It all started in 1954 at a dude ranch outside Santa Barbara. The owners (the Hensons) apparently were best known for their salad dressing, started selling the powdered mix to take home. It got big enough that they sold off to Clorox in 1972 and the rest is history. 8 saltines finely crushed or processed. 1 c dry parsley. 1/4 c dried minced onion. 1 T dried dill. 2 T onion salt. 2 T onion powder. 2 T garlic salt. 2 T garlic powder. 1 t black pepper. 1/2 t dried basil. Add baco...
UnclePhool: DC Bucket List
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2016/03/dc-bucket-list.html
Wednesday, March 30, 2016. So I have been in DC nearly full time for seven months now. Attend the DC State Fair. Tour the West Wing. Go bowling at the White House. Take in the 4th of July on the National Mall. Attend Supreme Court Arguments. Check out books and use the reading room at the Library of Congress. Go to the Tidal Basin to see the Cherry Blossoms. Take a pleasure cruise on the Potomac. Fly a helicopter over the city. Security rules say no. Bummer. Have a drink with Abe. See the cherry blossoms.

Monday, February 28, 2011. SULforMSAT #3 - Tuna Casserole Cups. Standup Lunches for Middle School Algebra Teachers: Episode 3. I grew up in the midwest. Admittedly it is not known for great culinary exploits- more for the communal nature of the church basement potluck. I have a collection of these community cookbooks that are filled with all varieties of casserole, hotdish, and one-pot-dinners. The instructions? 1 can Tuna (or chicken or salmon or trout would work too). 1 small onion sauted. 1 cup grated...
UnclePhool: Last Week I Had A Car
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2016/02/last-week-i-had-car.html
Saturday, January 16, 2016. Last Week I Had A Car. Last week I had a car. That, in and of itself, is nothing special. Except that for the past four months I have been living in DC without one. Walking. And biking. And Metro-ing. And rarely catching rides. I felt utterly disconnected from the world around me. I could see that having a car would allow for more freedom to explore. See friends and family in VA. Go to Gettysburg, Williamsburg, or the Blue Ridge Parkway. Get lost on the back roads ...Dips - Mi...
UnclePhool: March 2011
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 12, 2011. The spring allergens are in the air and I really did not feel like going out this afternoon at all. So looking through the fridge, I found some nice local ground beef I had picked up at the Co-op that needed to be cooked. I found a few other things that I thought might be good for a twist on Sloppy Joe's. 1 lb ground beef. 1 small chopped onion (about 3/4 cup or so). 12-14 mini carrots shredded (1/2 cup-ish). 1/2 tub (4 oz) chopped porcini mushrooms. 1 6-oz can tomato paste.
UnclePhool: June 2012
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 22, 2012. It is once again summer. Time for cooking outdoors over the open flame. BBQ sauce is one of those areas of cooking that sparks much debate and contest. Heck, even the mention of USING a sauce gets some folks dander up. I happen to like good sauces. 1/4 c apple cider vinegar. 1/4 c brown sugar. 2 T olive oil. 2 T paprika (smoked is nice). 1 T chile powder (use whatever heat you like). 1 t garlic powder. 1 t ground chipotle (or 1/2 t. cayenne if you can't find). 1 t onion powder.

Engineer, Musician, Cook, Quilter, Sportsman, Explorer. Since that trip to Turkey, I have made a few dozen trips overseas and have now visited 36 countries. I have a notional goal of 50 by the time I hit 50- or at least have fun trying to get there. I am always thinking about another place. What’s next? Where have I not been? Where would I like to return? Of course I don’t do myself any favors by watching. Books, or following any number of. A Stop Off in Istanbul (May 2012). Along the Mekong River.
UnclePhool: Chile Cashews
http://phoolishthings.blogspot.com/2012/03/chile-cashews.html
Sunday, March 18, 2012. Cashews never last very long around the house. Santa used to leave a large bucket under the tree, but they always seemed to disappear in the next day or so. Especially when uncles and cousins started showing up. On their own, cashews are great. It is one of the nuts I can eat. Salty. Fatty. Crunchy. A great snack. Easy to take in a bag on the airplane. Then I found Trader Joe's Chili-Lime cashews. Holy cow! 15 or 2 pounds whole roasted salted cashews or peanuts. 2 t kosher salt.

Founding Member of the Erroneous Avant-Garde. Who is this Phool? Wisdom of the Phool. Only a Phool expects to be happy all the time. I am sure that some would agree that any or all of these might apply to UnclePhool. 1 a silly or stupid person; a person who lacks judgment or sense. 2 a professional jester, formerly kept by a person of royal or noble rank for amusement: the court fool. 3 a person who has been tricked or deceived into appearing or acting silly or stupid: to make a fool of someone.
