Self Assessing My Reflecting | uncommonteacher

An uncommon journey into the field of Education. Self Assessing My Reflecting. March 17, 2014. That’s a selfie of me reflecting! During the past quarter of course work and student teaching, I feel I became much more discerning and at the same time more clear about many teaching practices. I think my blogs reflect that. My blog that seems to have provoked others’ thinking the most was about student self assessment. Part of the Process’ Classroom Community blog. Inspired me to write a whole blog. One thoug...

An uncommon journey into the field of Education. March 2, 2014. Is one principle of learning that can affect students’ motivation or intent to learn. This is sometimes referred to as level of anxiety or level of tension. Whatever term is used, it refers to how much students care about what they learn. There is also our, the teacher’s, levels of concern that we need to be conscious of keeping balanced as discussed in Madeline Hunter’s. Mastery Teaching: Increasing Instructional Effectiveness. This Level o...

My Road to Teaching. A blog about the ups and downs and all arounds of becoming a teacher! Mathematical Misconceptions: Supporting Students. March 1, 2014. As a future teacher, I want to grow and learn to find out how best to support students that are struggling on a regular (and timely) basis to ensure that they don’t fall behind their classmates, but also to ensure that they are really understanding the numbers and operations that they are using. http://discussioninmyhead.blogspot.com/2014/01/project-learning-tree.html
The Classroom Discussion in my Head. Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Yesterday my cohort had the opportunity for environmental studies professional development through a Project Learning Tree. Workshop. It was a great, eye-opening experience into both environmental issues and incredible ways in which to incorporate environmental sudies into all school subjects. Although I still plan on teaching middle school math once I'm done with this program, I'm looking forward to using the resource book I bought at the...

The Classroom Discussion in my Head. Thursday, August 8, 2013. Day Eight: Food Journal Reflection. I decided to cut down on my drinking, not just because of this assignment, but it helped keep me accountable. It also helped finally keep myself accountable for the things I was eating; not just the amount, but also the content. Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Day Seven: Book Discussion. Tuesday, August 6, 2013. My Path to Becoming a Teacher. February 27, 2014. Dear abby, why are you so quiet? Why are you so quiet? Now it is almost March, and I keep thinking about you, Abby. I know you don’t speak because you feel like an inadequate student. In fact, you have a particular brilliance about you. I know that if I squat down beside you while you’re working, I see that you are a wonderful writer, truly mathematically minded, and an avid reader. This entry was posted in students. Awareness to action | Escaping Flatland
https://escapingflatland.wordpress.com/2014/02/02/awareness-to-action
February 2, 2014. In both this geography class and with the Project Learning Tree class, there is a non-interference on the teacher’s part. In these moments of environmental education I was given a chance in school to wander allowing a randomness that gave rise to curiosity. I agree with the line from Guesses at Truth. That curiosity is little more than another name for Hope. One thought on “ Awareness to action. February 6, 2014 at 7:22 am. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

uncommontary | where interesting ideas have sex and breed like rabbits
Where interesting ideas have sex and breed like rabbits. If You’re Not Outraged Oh, Put a Cork In It! July 11, 2013. I think being liberal/progressive means wanting to make the world better, not complaining that it isn’t, by taking care of each other. It’s more about cooperation than competition. Instead of feeding each other’s outrage by sharing every stupid, mean, and crazy thing the worst conservatives say, how about touting that other stuff? Or is the outrage just an end in itself? Facebook is where ...

The Monkey Wrench Gang. What I Learned from Tim DeChristopher’s Speech in Santa Fe. On September 25, 2013. Tim DeChristopher took time off from his studies at Harvard Divinity School to come to Santa Fe. He and Terry Tempest Williams, who introduced and interviewed him, were brought by the Lannan Foundation. Which brings amazing authors and speakers to town and charges people a whopping $5.00 to attend. The Lannan Foundation is one of the best things to ever happen to Santa Fe. Mark's commentary on culture, politics and everyday life. About me and this blog. Politics as action research? Corbyn, People’s QE, and Syriza. 28 July, 2015. Politics as action research? Corbyn, People’s QE, and Syriza. These brief thoughts have been triggered by the Jeremy Corbyn campaign to be Labour Party leader, and by Syriza’s negotiations with the Troika. An uncommon journey into the field of Education. When do you take a stand? May 26, 2014. Letting the Superintendent know my opinion? When do teachers take a stand, or do they? Soon we will be hearing a lot about our state taking a stand.
