DMV and Weighty Issues | Gary's Journal

DMV and Weighty Issues. Jun 9, 2015. No matter what state you reside in, the DMV is never an inviting atmosphere. If you found out you only had one year to live, a nanosecond spent at the DMV is an egregious use of time. I went to the California DMV yesterday to register our vehicles. I was informed that the amount I am required to pay to register and license my truck is based upon the truck’s weight. Thankfully my truck was not within earshot. I started my day today by reading and reflecting on I Kings ...

License Plates and Patch Jobs. Jul 16, 2015. A raw, scraping sound emanated from the front right of my truck every time I turned the steering wheel sharply. I wondered, initially, if some steering components had come loose or if suspension parts had broken off. This begs the question: When your battery rusts through a fender, nearly landing on the street, is it time for a different truck? So when it came to patching the rusted battery tray, I figured I would utilize two more Alabama license plates. I...

Route 666 | Gary's Journal

Jun 21, 2015. Route 66, in many ways, had a punishing impact on my old Ford. Hence the title of this post: Route 666. Here is a partial list of issues my truck encountered while journeying 2,500 relentlessly demanding miles. Swerving all over the road inadvertently drifting back and forth from the center line across to the shoulder of the road and back again. I wonder if I coulda saved 100 miles by simply staying in my lane. I really gotta get that steering checked. 4 (and 5). Then there was the cool...

Jun 30, 2015. For roughly three months, our Alabama home has been for sale. A handful of potential buyers have walked through the house. So far, no offers. After each showing, the buyer’s agent types up their clients’ reactions as feedback for us as sellers. A new professor at Jacksonville State walked through our house. His realtor emailed us with comments. Blunt, unapologetic feedback. Some of it hurt, setting me back on my heels. But one remark in particular stood out from the others:. Get to know me,...

Aug 6, 2015. Some maps no longer work for where I am going. In our new city I have been very dependent on Siri’s voice for driving directions.
