http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. 3615 E. Grand River Ave. Howell, MI 48843. A sunny day, a pleasant drive, and discovering another bookstore- it just doesnt get much better than that, unless of course you discover two great bookstores in one day. In my last post I gave an account of my stop at Owosso Books and More. Friday, May 8, 2015. Owosso Books and More. 119 W Exchange Street. Owosso, MI 48867. Its a small world! ReddEverywhere: My Favorites
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/p/my-favorites.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. These are titles that are particular favorites of mine. I have read, and in many cases, reread them. I fully expect this list to grow over time. These books have made a lasting impression on me, and perhaps they will appeal to you too. In no particular order:. By David Mitchell is a contender for my favorite book. I found it to be breathtakingly brilliant. See my full review: Cloud Atlas. By Elizabeth Wein. Strong women, secret missions, WWII? By Richard Russo...

ReddEverywhere: Tip of the Mitt, Part I
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015/06/tip-of-mitt-part-i.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Tip of the Mitt, Part I. Mackinac Island, Michigan. Back out on the street side, several horse-drawn carriages were parked, awaiting riders, and I enjoyed a brief conversation with one friendly driver. Carriages and bicycles are the only way to get around on the island other than walking. Motorized vehicles are not allowed with few exceptions, one being the filming of the movie, Somewhere in Time. ReddEverywhere: August 2015
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Wednesday, August 19, 2015. A Remarkable Woman, A Remarkable Place. Benzonia, MI 49616. In a densely wooded area near the small town of Benzonia in northern Michigan, off the beaten path, lies a most unique shop. It is the print shop of naturalist, poet, philosopher, and artist, Gwen Frostic. The artist is no longer with us, but her spirit and work live on in this amazing structure, a place I was thrilled to visit this past July. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Purple...

ReddEverywhere: April 2015
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Wednesday, April 15, 2015. In the Market for Books. Here we momentarily interrupt this blog post for a shameless, yet unsolicited plug. At O'Brien's you will find the best beef kabobs ever, provided you get there before they have sold out. You'll also find everything you need to complete the meal from tasty deli salads to the perfect wine. And my husband says O'Brien's meatloaf is "to die for.". Friday, April 3, 2015. Spring is in the air! Last week the temper...

ReddEverywhere: Tip of the Mitt, Part IV
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/tip-of-mitt-part-iv.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Monday, August 3, 2015. Tip of the Mitt, Part IV. 334 North Main Street. Cheboygan, MI 49721. And a purple store, which as you probably guessed, sells nothing but purple items. ( thepurplestore.com. You can imagine how excited I was to discover a bookstore with a special association to this lovely color. More about purple later. First, let me introduce you to Purple Tree Books. After passing through the tidy entrance, framed in purple and accented by purple fl...

ReddEverywhere: November 2014
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Friday, November 28, 2014. Let me just say right off the bat that this is not a shameless commercial promotion for Kellogg's cereals. Yes, I am a cereal lover; and yes, I do buy Kellogg's cereals from time to time. But that's not what this is about. More of an "atta boy! The promotion information on the back of the box rightly points out what every librarian already knows: Reading can boost self-confidence and improves a child's ability to think creatively and...

ReddEverywhere: Tip of the Mitt, Part III
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2015/07/tip-of-mitt-part-iii.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Thursday, July 16, 2015. Tip of the Mitt, Part III. 215 E Central Ave. P O Box 1006. Mackinaw City, MI 49701. Who doesn't love a good picture book? One of the biggest advantages of kids and grandkids is that they provide a reasonable excuse to read these illustrated literary works. Not that I've ever needed an excuse, mind you. Some of my favorite books are picture books. But what about a picture bookstore? Always jealous of your travels! Code Redd Games Blog.

ReddEverywhere: A New Horizon
http://reddeverywhere.blogspot.com/2011/08/new-horizon.html
Notes from a retired librarian on a mission. Monday, August 1, 2011. 115 S Mitchell Street. Cadillac, MI 49601. The wailing call of a loon on a still summer evening, a baby laughing, the subtle flutter of book pages being turned- all ear candy to me. The latter treat I enjoyed as I entered Horizon Books in Cadillac, Michigan. One patron, sitting in the comfortable cafe area next to the fireplace, was engrossed in a book while others with laptops were taking advantage of the free WiFi. For my purchase on ...
