Mind the Gap

Wednesday, April 01, 2015. Following last week's public launch of the Go-2 project, this post describes the first release and invites contributions. Go-2 is a simplified, extended subset of Google's Go. Programming language which addresses many of Go's short-comings long recognized by the community. Some of these gaps were highlighted recently in a blog. By Gary Willoughby, particularly the lack of generics. Mind the Gap: April 2013

http://underlap.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 03, 2013. Virgo in the Cloud: a CloudFoundry buildpack. The recent Virgo community survey showed quite a bit of interest in running Virgo in the cloud. With CloudFoundry's forthcoming "buildpack" support, this was relatively easy to achieve. Is available on github - see the README. For the application(s) to be deployed and repository/usr. For any additional dependencies not already provided by Virgo - which are placed in an instance of Virgo Server for Apache Tomcat. Links to this post.

Mind the Gap: November 2013

http://underlap.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 20, 2013. In the previous post. I mentioned a use case for the Virgo buildpack of running Virgo as an Ubuntu Juju. Charm With some advice from the guys at Canonical, for which I'm grateful, a first prototype is now working. So far, I've implemented two simple hooks. An install hook. Downloads and installs a JRE and Virgo as well as a test application. It does this by installing the test application and then running the Virgo buildpack compile. Operation against the test application.

Mind the Gap: June 2014

http://underlap.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 19, 2014. Containers in Cloud Foundry: warden meets libcontainer. Pivotal has decided to merge Cloud Foundry's container technology with Docker's. I'm delighted to be working on this project with my friend and colleague Steve Powell. This blog sketches our initial thoughts. Unlikely to gain much traction in the open source community. Reusing Docker's container technology turned out to be the best option. Now that Docker has split out the. Basing a new Warden Linux backend. Via TCP/IP using...

Mind the Gap: Importing packages into a 3rd party bundle

http://underlap.blogspot.com/2011/03/importing-packages-into-3rd-party.html

Friday, March 18, 2011. Importing packages into a 3rd party bundle. I regularly come across the situation where someone needs to import additional packages into a 3rd party OSGi bundle. Sometimes this is because the bundle manifest is incorrect, but more often it's because the bundle uses Class.forName. Or similar to load classes that are somehow configured at runtime. Manifest-Version : 1.0. Hostsymbolic.name; bundle-version. Each fragment bundle needs to be installed before its host is resolved at whic...

Mind the Gap: Nuxeo EP based on OSGi

http://underlap.blogspot.com/2007/02/nuxeo-ep-based-on-osgi.html

Wednesday, February 07, 2007. Nuxeo EP based on OSGi. The recent announcement of Nuxeo Enterprise Platform v5 on Freshmeat. Hinted that they had adopted an Eclipse-like extension mechanism based on OSGi. The Nuxeo homepage. Made me wonder if this was just buzzword compliance. But it seems not. Describes the use of OSGi in a little more detail. Nuxeo exploits OSGi when it is available and mimics it otherwise. I wonder why they didn't bundle an existing OSGi framework? First, thanks for your note. The art ...

The Programming Delusion: April 2014

http://blog.bjhargrave.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Delusional thoughts on Java, OSGi, Eclipse and other things. Friday, April 04, 2014. Java 8, bnd and references to compile-time constants. Java 8 was recently released and I wanted to test it out with the OSGi build. I installed JDK 8 on my Mac, pointed JAVA HOME. At it and started a clean build of OSGi. After the build completed, I ran the Core Compliance Tests to verify the build. Unfortunately several of the tests were now failing. Added a package to the test bundle's Import-Package. Holding the refer...
