underneath the baobab: Tomegbe Well Photos

http://underneaththebaobab.blogspot.com/2012/07/tomegbe-well-photos.html

Wednesday, July 25, 2012. These recent photos are from the village of Tomegbe, just down the dirt road a mile or so from the village of Game, where I was a Peace Corps Volunteer. Tomegbe is a village of approximate 200 people who traditionally get their water from a stream nearby. The water is transported on foot, usually by women and girls, and is very labor intensive and time consuming. The village will greatly benefit from having this clean water source nearby. The hard work of digging a well.

underneath the baobab: Art and Writing Camp for Girls

http://underneaththebaobab.blogspot.com/2011/09/art-and-writing-camp-for-girls.html

Sunday, September 18, 2011. Art and Writing Camp for Girls. I spent part of a week in August at the Art and Writing Camp for Girls in Cove, Oregon. It is sponsored by the Cove Ascension School. And ES.T.E.A.M. Many girls don't have an opportunity to work in clay at their schools so I was really happy to show them some techniques. We made art in this beautiful old building that was actually rolled to Cove from La Grande on wooden logs many many moons ago. Labels: Cove Ascension School.

Friday, April 16, 2010. A well in the village of Zebe! We're very excited to announce that a well is being dug in the village of Zebe. This small village is located just next to Game and the friendly people there are known for their amazing drumming. Here is a photo of some of the people of Zebe, including the Chief. The process begins by looking for water. As supplies arrive, the heavy bags of cement are unloaded. And the metal bars. Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I grew up on a far...

Bird's Eye View Studio: April 2015

http://birdseyeviewstudio.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

April 24, 2015. I've been back at it for a few weeks, painting lace rocks. It's very meditative and calming to paint these guys, or maybe they're gals? I enjoy that all of them have the same elements, and yet come out very differently. Kind of like us humans! I start in the center painting a single circle, and then make even-ish petals from there. Adding scallops, dots, lines tear drops, and little antenna shapes. I keep circling around and around, and slowly I'm so focused on these lace mandalas. But of...

Bird's Eye View Studio: Progression of Peony.

http://birdseyeviewstudio.blogspot.com/2015/04/progression-of-peony.html

April 21, 2015. I saw the most magnificent peony last week in a friends yard,. And knew immediately I wanted to draw it. Here is a progression of a peony inside my sketchbook. I started with this amazing Kuretake Bimoji super fine brush pen. It's easy to get lost when drawing from a reference image,. I had to do my normal pep talking, "keep going, keep going, keep going.". I also of course had to make some "Artist choices" as I call them,. Adding a few imaginary petals to make up for gaps and goofs.

While the Mr. and the cat watch TV in the evenings. Even shows that I usually love don't hold up to the pull of playing in my Sketchbook. Here's what I have been up to this week. And skim along our lives with our bumper bubbles protecting us from the world. I urge you once a day to practice the art of bringing to LIFE one of your senses. Let yourself be inspired. Water Shining Beyond The Fields, by poet and artist John Brandi, while travelling through the same SE Asian countries he was writing about. Underneath The Charging Sky

Underneath The Charging Sky. Monday, July 12, 2010. Current Context/ Political Drama this week. The European Union also put pressure on the government via a trade deal. The trade deal, known as the GSP came with a list of agreements. This time the agreements had everything to do with war victims and lists of dead combatants. Let's just say that this 17 point list was not well received, in fact it was rejected by the government. So there it stands, the political drama of the week. Again, as I've mentioned...
