Understanding Art 1: Western Art. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. Fake or Fortune series 3. Monuments woman →. Treasures of Ancient Egypt. January 16, 2014. Just been watching ‘Treasures of Ancient Egypt’ I caught the end of the first episode last night but I’ll have to watch the rest on iPlayer. I can remember I was in my second year at Secondary school when the Tutankhamen. Exhibition came to Britain in 1972. I borrowed a book from the school library and when the history teacher saw it we spent...

Understanding Art 1: Western Art. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. Treasures of Ancient Egypt. Renoir digitally restored →. February 12, 2014. The last remaining member of the 60 strong British section of the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives (Monuments Men) is a woman and she was interviewed on BBC’s The One Show last night. Understanding Art 1: Western Art. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. March 26, 2014. Yippee I passed. I got 65% and some very encouraging feedback. I’d hoped for a higher mark but I’m chuffed with what I got considering this is the first time I’ve ever done any academic writing. It will help me a lot as I go on to Level 2 of my textiles degree. Understanding Art 1: Western Art. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. Assessment results →. February 14, 2014. My work has arrived at OCA in Barnsley for March assessment so there is nothing more I can do but keep my fingers crossed for a good mark🙂. When I had to choose my 3rd level one module it was a toss up between Printmaking and Western Art. I’m so glad I chose this module, I can always learn Printmaking later. Art history is a subject that you are learning about all the time. Overall though IR...

Understanding Art 1: Western Art. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. Newer posts →. January 9, 2014. Just watching a fascinating programme on BBC 4 about ‘The Other Pompeii: Life and Death Herculaneum. Early in this module I did research on how Greek and Roman statues would have been coloured and not the plain white marble that we are so used to seeing. When they cleaned the ash from a head of a woman they found the original colours on the hair, eyes and lashes. Part 1 Classical and religious art. One o...

Asymp; 1 Comment. I had a great day on Saturday with Sue Smith of Serisilks, learning to wet felt. Sue does regular one day workshops in Gloucester and her facebook page is as follows: https:/ m.facebook.com/serisilks. Sue specialises in structures and so we had the option to make a vase-like structure or an owl pen pot. And here is the new addition to our family:. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Part 3, project 6, stage 4 – Final Sample. Asymp; Leave a comment. The brief for this was to take one of the collages from stage 2 and develop it further. Sounds straight forward enough, right? Except that it was to be on a piece of calico and this alone…so no embellishements with other fabrics….not like another collage. I stared at it for a while and decided on stems made by tucking the fabric and gathers to give the idea of petals. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. History o...

Part 3, project 6, stage 4 – Reflection. Asymp; Leave a comment. How does working with fabric in this way compare with working directly with stitch? I have enjoyed the experimentation in this section and have learned a lot but didn’t get the same satisfaction from it as the first two parts of ACA. It might have something to do with confidence, I am used to using embroidery to create something beautiful. I am sure that I will be using many of these techniques again. What would you do differently? I think ...

I also added some wadding into one which gives it a softer edge and has a thicker, padded finish. Two layers of fabric with wadding used as a stuffing. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Part 3, project 6, stage 4 – Combining Tyvek and Bondaweb methods. Asymp; 2 Comments. It suggests in the coursework to take a base fabric, cover with a layer of torn-up bits of bondaweb, cover that with yarn and bits, then another layer of torn-up bits of bondaweb…finally layer a piece or organza. I have a lovely Oliver and S blouse pattern (as below) that I make for my daughter which has pin-tucks in front and back. It definitely gives the blouse beautiful detail. Larr; Previous post. Part 3, project 6, stage 4 – Dekoboko (lumps and bumps)! Asymp; Leave a comment. I have had this Pattern Magic book (NAKAMICHI, T. 2005. English ed. London: Laurence King publishing) for a while now and look at it every so often. One day I will make something from it! In the meantime, I have used it to make a ‘dekoboko’ paper pattern. There are instructions in the book to make a bodice with 3D shapes, as below:. I had a go at making the pattern with card. Cube shape on card with pattern lines drawn in.

Textiles 2: Developing Creative Textiles. My Journey to a Degree in Textiles. August 10, 2015. Even though it’s over a month until I have to send my work for assessment I’ve made a start on getting it ready. I always knew the comb binder that I bought years ago in Aldi for 9.99 reduced from 17.99 would come in handy. I used it to bind the written report and research to give it a professional edge.
