Under the Acacia Tree: June 2011

http://undertheacaciatree-joshua.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Under the Acacia Tree. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. The shy man makes Maafe. So today I decided to ask one of the drivers that works with me at my job about whether or not he would be interested in contributing to my blog. I explained the concept and my goal of sharing recipes and stories of Africans living in DFW or Texas in general. His name is Donald and he is from Congo. He is a shy, soft spoken man. Very friendly and more than happy to take part in my quest. 1 onion, roughly chopped. Heat olive oil in pan.

Under the Acacia Tree: S is for Sadza.

http://undertheacaciatree-joshua.blogspot.com/2011/07/s-is-for-sadza.html

Under the Acacia Tree. Friday, July 8, 2011. S is for Sadza. One of the greatest friends I've made during my stays in South Africa is a man named Cyril English. Cyril is from Rhodesia. Salisbury. Do not say he is from Zimbabwe. You will be in a heck of a lot of trouble. I met Cyril when I was living in Camperdown and taking odd jobs, helping my friend Sam. Cyril gave me a few days work loading and unloading freezer trucks for his landlord, Bruce, who is also from Rhodesia. Cyril and Elsy, 2009. Lower the...

Under the Acacia Tree. Thursday, June 16, 2011. A humble start. no subscribers. nothing posted before this. My new blog. I only hope the subscribers to my travel blog decide to grace me with their presence and join this new blog as well! The idea of this blog is to share the recipes and stories of Africans living in my city. I have met so many successful African expats who have made their home in the DFW area. Why did they leave their home? Simple, but filling and delicious! The Bean Bunny Chow. Thorough...

Under the Acacia Tree: A potjie without borders..

http://undertheacaciatree-joshua.blogspot.com/2011/07/potjie-without-borders.html

Under the Acacia Tree. Monday, July 18, 2011. A potjie without borders. Today was beautiful. The sky was clear and blue, warm summer sun poured down and I had the day off. After a day packed full with mowing, branch trimming and a few errands- I decided what I wanted to make for dinner. I have also decided to expand my blog a bit. I have come to the realisation that limiting the blog to specific recipes from specific people really limits the ideas and possibilities. Savoury Chicken and Rice Potjie. Half ...

News, observations, and photos from my life and work among the Fulani, Tamacheq, and Songhai in the area around Gorom-Gorom in Burkina Faso. Monday, 16 April 2012. The cost of discipleship. Last week, one of the pastors in our area baptised 18 people. After years of faithful witness with little response, he has seen more people come to Christ in the last year than in the 10 years before that. Yesterday his in-laws called him to come and collect his wife and children, and take them home. Links to this post.

GOLDEN HARE | Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be.

Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be. I breathe through my nose. Because my throat is. Sore with mystery,. Hot water and the. And it is sour:. In the damp and the cold,. Beaten into frozen ground. Sleepiness digs me deeper. All the hidden sheets. Rubbing my body to. Quick to anger and. To possession, stripped bark. Like a missing photograph,. How sick we get. In the quiet season,. Death muting even the footsteps. Muffled in the dark. So the dust sticks. So the walls turn,.

An inside look at student life at Pacific Life Bible College (Surrey, BC). Pastiche Theme by UltraLinx. Hey, my name is Jeremy. I graduated this past year from the Student Ministry Program at Pacific Life Bible College. Honestly, I don’t know where to begin in describing how blessed I’ve been by the school, the staff, and the students. Every day, I think back to something I’ve learned or experienced during my time there. No matter where I go or what I do, I will always think back on my time at PLBC and b...
