This is a windy area with a number of narrow channels which funnel the wind and the waves dramatically. Care is needed on the lee side of high ground, as well as in the channels, though experienced local sailors suggest that keeping very close in to the windward shore when passing the lee side of islands is the best choice. Not much respite from the wind!
