Undiscovered Optimist

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Over the winter, I took the Handstitched class offered by Rachel of Stitched in Color. With my friend Daisy. While Daisy took on five of the smaller weekly challenges, I decided that I wanted to attempt the medallion quilt. I knew it would take me longer than the nine weeks the class spanned, but with three kids, that's just my reality! I have been chipping away on this fun pattern little by little and here is where I stand:. Handstitched Medallion Border 3. We have a very open for...

Undiscovered Optimist: November 2014

http://undiscoveredoptimist.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Planning for TMQG Retreat 2014. This weekend is the Triangle Modern Quilt Guild's annual retreat. It is an opportunity to get away, socialize with like minded quilters, and make some progress on those WIPs and holiday gifts! We have a very open format without a program for the weekend which leaves for a LOT of time to just sew. So here is my current plan:. Now onto the quilting. Vice Versa BOM Quilt. I need to choose a backing and binding for this project as well. I'm Michel...

Undiscovered Optimist: July 2014

http://undiscoveredoptimist.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Are you a "good enough" quilter? Or a perfectionist in your piecing? I am working on a mostly low volume top that will probably end up in some sort of floating nine-patch. Happy pile waiting to be pinned. Perfect Points (sorry about the terrible fuzzy picture! How do you get to be that good and quilt such beautiful art? By putting a lot of hours into the craft! So my question is: Do you recommend that beginners piece until experience breeds perfection? Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Undiscovered Optimist: October 2014

http://undiscoveredoptimist.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Have you ever received a gift, and you're not quite sure what to do with it, but you know it is awesome? This weekend, my aunt invited me over to go through some of her stash she wouldn't be able to work with. She is a more traditional quilter and so we often use different types of fabric and trade with each other. She is also a yard sale queen and picks up great finds on a regular basis. This week, she had a huge stash of fabric strips! I love those watermelon-eating dinos!

Been feeling all wobbly again, so spending more time reading and pondering. Thought it’d be interesting to share some links today. And because every post needs a photo, here’s a glimpse of the indigo dyeing that happened yesterday. 8211; I’ve been smitten with the podcast 99% Invisible. For a long while and even donated to their Kickstarter last year. Consistently educational nuggets about the elements of design in everyday life that we often don’t notice. 8212; My new quilter hero is Yvonne Wells. You a...

I'm Daisy. Just like ants to sugar, I'm drawn to fabric and quilting! I sew I quilt. I embroider. Click on an image that inspires you or use the category tab on the menu bar to search my archives. February 24, 2015. So, here’s my little debrief on QuiltCon 2015. I’d like to focus on four main ideas: how am I changed? What did I learn? What will I do differently now? And will I go back? How am I changed? What did I learn? I attended an embroidery workshop, a binding workshop, and. You can create your own.
