The Last Farewell | Unemployed Rabbit: the New Deal experience
https://unemployedrabbit.wordpress.com/2010/01/28/the-last-farewell
Unemployed Rabbit: the New Deal experience. Running from the snares. I have been keeping this to my chest for some time, but I am pleased to inform you that I am now Off. And in gainful employment! On the day I signed off, I attended a meeting with my New Deal Advisor scheduled for 1pm. As I arrived at 12.50, she left on her lunch. I was then obliged to wait until 1.35 before being seen, and once I told her I was signing off she instructed me to come back at 3pm to finish off the paperwork. Glad to hear ...

Unemployed Rabbit: the New Deal experience. Running from the snares. Escape from TNG, Hello New Deal. I hope everyone had a good Christmas (if you celebrate it) and a Happy New Year. My apologies for failing to blog over that period but, in truth, I didn’t feel up to spending my exceedingly limited free time rehashing the chiefly depressing stuff going on in my life. They’re paying for you a taxi home, make you a warm drink, offer you chocolates and presents and smile and chat nicely to you. Af...Feed Yo...

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): Tax
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/tax.html
The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. It won't save taxpayers' money. A lot of people who support the proposals that the government outlined in July 2008. Seem to think that it will save taxpayers' money. I can assure them that this is most unlikely to happen for a variety of reasons. The cost of running the scheme will almost certainly outweigh any savings made, with the taxpayer footing the bill. Indeed, it appears that New Deal. Jobs that need doing. And Flexible New Deal. They sound g...

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): Minimum wage
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/minimum-wage.html
The politics of unemployment. Thursday, 13 August 2009. A lot of comparisons are made between the national minimum wage. And unemployment benefits. In April 2008, jobseeker's allowance. Was raised to 60.50 pounds per week for most single people, rising to 64.30 in April 2009. Those under 25 are paid a reduced rate, while different rates apply for couples and lone parents. Of itself, this would be well below the national minimum wage. Or local housing allowance. And council tax benefit. Which is set at ex...

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): Slaves and criminals
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/slaves-and-criminals.html
The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. Is "New Deal" slavery? Debate Should benefits be linked to community service? Some people suggested that the new proposals that the government outlined in July 2008. Were just a device so that the government. Could "employ" people while avoiding all the normal statutory rights - the national minimum wage. A lot of people in that debate angrily rejected the idea of slavery. Certainly, it is an emotive term, but so is poverty. Believes that by subjectin...

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): In America
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/in-america.html
The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. I believe that Wisconsin's welfare to work. Provided the inspiration for New Deal. And similar schemes around the world such as Australia's "Work for the dole". I'd be interested to know if these other schemes work better than New Deal. I find it difficult to believe that they are any worse. I see from an article in the Washington Post, Highly skilled and out of work. Published in January 2008 before the full magnitude of the 2008 banking crisis.

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): My own political beliefs
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/my-own-political-beliefs.html
The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. My own political beliefs. My own political beliefs. I don't fit the unemployed stereotype. Some people are convinced that benefit claimers are all habitual Labour. Two long spells out of work have given me another perspective on life. My fundamental beliefs have not changed, but I have moved leftwards to varying degrees on some issues. While the 2008 banking crisis. Shows what happens when capitalism. So the worst excesses of capitalism. Lost their wa...

The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): Am I a benefit scrounger?

The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. Am I a benefit scrounger? Am I a benefit scrounger? I've been accused of fraud. What a sad Muppet. You are. Get off your fat lazy arse and find a job. How the hell can you afford all these Amazon. Purchases out of your incapacity benefit. Perhaps you should be reported for dole fraud. The politics of unemployment (Peter Durward Harris): Bankruptcy
http://peterdurwardharris7.blogspot.com/2009/08/bankruptcy.html
The politics of unemployment. Sunday, 16 August 2009. The experts like to scare people about bankruptcy. Claiming that it will make life impossible for years to come and warning people that they must take all steps to avoid it. Of course, it's impossible to avoid if you have debts that cannot be repaid from your income. Those debts don't have to be massive to be un-repayable if you're unemployed. I wanted to avoid bankruptcy. The only thing that caused me a little worry was when I was told that bankruptcy.
