Happy birthday to our sweet and happy little boy! He got sung to a few times yesterday and Saturday night, and each time he got a big smile on his face. Last night he kept repeating Happy birthday! We gave him a little play tent with a puppy dog on it, and he just loved celebrating with his cousin/buddy Owie. He enjoyed eating his cookie (cake). As you would say, Hendrik, I lalo. You are growing to be so big and strong! And because my job is to help that happen, ESL style. Enter your email address:.

Thankful for the cold weather... - Babel Aftermath

Thankful for the cold weather. Because Tuesday was my first day back at school. Wednesday we had a two-hour delay, and yesterday and today school was cancelled due to extreme cold. Hooray! It's coming at a good time- Hendrik has been running a low fever off and on since yesterday morning, and today I got him to open his mouth just long enough to catch a glimpse of the fourth 2-year molar beginning to poke through. These teeth are just horrendous for him. We're ready to be done for a while. I think the la...

ABC and 123 - Babel Aftermath

He knew all ten, well, sort of. I simultaneously felt guilty that he didn't know them in English and super proud that he had learned them in Spanish at Elia's house. Since then he has learned them in English too. It's so cool to have this unique and wonderful baby-sitting situation. You know how when you study something you just get the chance to marvel at it more? That's how I feel with Hendrik and language acquisition right now. At the dinner table the other night Hendrik was excitedly saying "feza!

Me: No, this is an orange! A clementine, actually. Mmm. It tastes nice. H: Niiice baby. Niiice dog dog. Dog dog night night? Owie night night. Owie BALLOON! Me: Where's your balloon? This was part of our conversation over breakfast. In there that gets activated in early childhood by hearing language around us. But how exactly something like that would work? It can mean Daddy's sleeping, I'm tired, where's my blanket, and probably other stuff too. It keeps us on our toes guessing what he means. Oh! After ...

High school romance - Babel Aftermath

You know you have a winner if your boyfriend walks you to class every 6th period and lingers there until the bell rings and then goes tardy to his own 6th period. When he is willing to risk getting lots of tardies, detentions, and Wednesday schools just to be with you between classes you know he really cares. Not that I would be looking at this issue from the perspective of an adult or anything. :). And because my job is to help that happen, ESL style. Enter your email address:. Barge into My Heart.

Beauty from Ashes – My Life Story. Clone of a Cinnabon. Grandma’s Cranberry Salad. Oooh, this is a tough one! There is tons of good music out there! I’m not sure I can decide between these two – both make me drop to my knees when I’m home alone. Especially the line “My chains are gone, I’ve been set free.” I know about chains – and I know what it feels like when you are free. Anyway – see for yourself! Amazing Grace – My chains are Gone – Chris Tomlin. Mighty is the power of the cross – Chris Tomlin.

Beauty from Ashes – My Life Story. Clone of a Cinnabon. Grandma’s Cranberry Salad. I have no idea where I got this – it was years and years ago. I love this bread. So worth it! 1 cup butter, softened. 2 cups white sugar. 1 cup mashed bananas. 1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple w/ juice. 2 tsps. baking powder. 3/4 tsp. salt. 1/2 cup flaked coconut. 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. Preheat oven to 350. 9×5 loaf pan. In large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Fold in coconut and walnuts.
