Running, a bit late to the party. May 26, 2015. May 26, 2015. I remember this day well. We were having my department over for a cook-out and it was HOT. My jeans were too tight on my stomach and I didn’t have shorts that fit. I had the Lap Band at this point and I knew I would not be able to keep down most of what I ate. I was miserable! I get comments that people wish they had my drive and dedication. F that. If you want it, you will find a way. Yes, getting up at 4:15 is horrible. You are commenting us...

Running, a bit late to the party. April 22, 2016. April 22, 2016. Thank goodness I was able to run 3 miles on Thursday, to take the edge off! My next race isn’t until the Marine Corps Marathon (3rd time! At the end of October so I’m treading water until mid-July. I need a plan, though. I think I’ll lose my ever loving mind if I don’t have some sort of plan for the next three months. As usual, I’m a work in progress! Race Report: Blue Ridge Marathon 2016. April 21, 2016. April 21, 2016. For a variety of r...
A new look at (my) nutrition | Unexpected Runner
https://unexpectedrunner.wordpress.com/2015/08/11/a-new-look-at-my-nutrition
Running, a bit late to the party. A new look at (my) nutrition. August 11, 2015. I’m still here, running, training, nursing a bum IT band, but I don’t want to talk about that right now. I have always been a super slow loser and my body fights me for every ounce. Two weeks ago, I won a four week personalized nutrition plan with Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, Springfield. I am on my third day and I am mentally having a tough time with this. This is a lot of food! Basal Metabolic Rate: 1,629. I’m curiou...

Running, a bit late to the party. Race Report: Hot Chocolate Philadelphia 15K. April 9, 2015. April 9, 2015. When my Best Running Friend and I decided to register for the Hot Chocolate 15K. Way back in January, we were drawn mostly by the promise of a sweet hoodie. I won’t lie, we definitely run for the SWAG! As the winter progressed and illnesses set in, we began to worry. We had a bit of a heart to heart early last week and I think one of us said “but think of the hoodie! There weren’t any specta...

Tuesday, April 29, 2014. TriTalk Tuesday - Are My Kids Still Chasing Me? It's TriTalk Tuesday again! My favorite day of the blogging week where I get to link up with Cynthia at You Signed Up for What? And Courtney at The TriGirl Chronicles. And dish about all things triathlon. The last two weeks we have covered the Swim, the Bike, and now (predictably) it's time to talk about the Run. (Actually, as my technical coach pointed out in his bike post. My new favorite running shirt. One of many running boo-boos.

Adventures in running in the back of the pack. Diary of a slow runner. Hershey 10k 2014 (Race Recap). On April 13th I ran the Hershey 10k for the second time! First time recap is here. For a little background, in 2011 I ran the Hershey Half Marathon. 8211; and thanks to the “fun” rolling hills, it was really rough. I decided never again. However last year when I saw the 10k advertised I decided to give Hershey another chance. I trained for it and managed to PR, so overall my experience was pretty great!

Thursday, November 03, 2016. 2016 Race #19 - Marine Corps Marathon. Thursday, November 03, 2016. Beth and I decided to drive up to DC to save some money and even though it's a 6 hour drive (without traffic), it was definitely the way to go. Round trip with gas, hotel parking and using Uber to get to dinner Saturday and Sunday night was less than $90 to split between the two of us and we had a lot more control over when we arrived and left which was certainly a bonus. Heading down towards mile 4. You can ...

Monday, April 25, 2016. Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Atlanta. Monday, April 25, 2016. I've been trying to figure out how to encapsulate all that I did as part of the SWAT (sweaty, wet and tired) team for the Ragnar Trail Atlanta. I found out about this volunteer option in talking with the Ragnar staff at last year's Angel Fire race. I was assigned the Red loop for the race which is 6.8 miles and crosses two major granite slabs. Welcome to the Red loop! Of work ahead of me. Since there were so many si...

Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Massachusetts. Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Read my first experience SWATing in Atlanta here. We did have a little bit of excitement on Thursday - as the Yellow loop manager was running her course, she saw a bear in the woods, so the loop managers carried bear spray for the rest of the event and we were happy to report that we didn't see any more bears for the remainder of the event! Blue Ridge Marathon: 4/22/17. January 1: Ring in 2017 17k. Lesso...

Monday, January 02, 2017. 2016: Best 9 pictures. Monday, January 02, 2017. So this is more of an Instagram thing, but I had such a tough time narrowing down by top 9 pictures this year that I thought sharing them here along with some details would be a good idea, so here we go! On Saturday followed by a marathon. In September I was able to visit Washington state for the Ragnar Trail Cascades race and we actually drove through the Cascades on our way to the race venue. This was just at a rest stop but...

The Boys, Part One. November 13, 2007. Er 001 of 101: Songs of the Humpbacks. 169; September 5, 2001. Sometimes when you make. The biggest mistake ever,. Something good comes of it anyway. Micki awoke to the songs of whales. Micki didn't like to wake up suddenly to a blaring and jarring alarm that rapes dreams. No, she much preferred the gentle slow lull of gentle sounds coaxing her out of her dream-world and guiding her back on sleepywings into the real-world. What have I done? Shot through Micki's head...

The Unexpected of Life
The Unexpected of Life. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. 4 Need for silence. 3 Food for thought? Do we eat to live, or live to eat'. Going across Facebook, I found this heartbreaking image. Why is it, that in this day and era, there are thousands of people in the world that are suffering from starvation. The human species has evolved in so many ways possible: Technology, Women rights, Oppression etc. However, I wouldn't say we have progressed in terms of distribution of wealth. Those who spend their wealth ...
