The basic principles of aikido given here are partially taken from N. Tamura's. Modified by comments and teachings from Pierre Chassang sensei and from our own practice. An aikidoka stands with the head held high. This opens the throat and chest allowing the breath to flow without hindrance. Additionally, with the head held high, the aikidoka retains the opportunity to be aware of any possible attacks from any direction. N Tamura sensei says in. Aikido | fudokai aikido dojo

Aikido literally translates as "the way of harmony with ki". Unfortunately the concept of "ki" does not have an exact western equivalent but probably the nearest we are going to get is "spirit" or "life force". The founder of Aikido, Morehei Ueshiba, was perhaps the most formidable martial artist of his day but he was also - and this is not a strange combination in Japanses culture - widely regarded as one of the most spiritual men of his time.

Joining the club | fudokai aikido dojo

As we are a small group we're running the membership on a fairly exclusive basis, the reasoning being that even one person is a significant percentage of a class and we want to make sure that new members will fit with the existing student body. Senior aikido grades just looking for somewhere to train. Over the years we've found that senior aikidoka have their own view of how to practice aikido which then interferes with teaching in a small group such as ourselves. Junior students of other martial arts.

Ah - the tough ones first! I've only been training in Aikido for around 20 years and I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer. Still and all, you are probably only after a quick explanation which probably goes something like this:-. Aikido means the way of harmony with ki (ki = spirit or life-force - may the force be with you! In action it consists of using body movement to blend with and neutralise an attack followed by various locks and throws to control or destroy an attacker. The founder once said.

Quotes four methods of training through which the aikidoka progresses to eventually achieve a state of perfection called ki-musubi. Ko-tai is the first level of work, it is solid an precise and builds the foundations of all other training. During ko-tai training, tori allows uke to take a firm grasp and both partners assume strong stances. In this level of work the techniques can be examined in detail and any necessary corrections made to their practice. We're into the realms of. I don't believe I am qua...

In July 2005 we got our first set of 40 Trocellen. Interlocking mats giving us an 8m x 5m tatami . For the chemists and technically minded, the Trocellen. Mats are made of a cross-linked polyethylene foam made from polyolefin resins which gives a lightweight mat making the tatami quick and easy to lay and take up at the start and end of class. The mats significantly reduce the risk of accidents or injuries thanks to their elasticity and shock absorption capabilities.
