Wednesday, March 3, 2010. It turns out my problems aren't so bad. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Farm, Tennessee. Coming full circle, it seems. A former resident of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, I somehow graduated seminary and wound up heading home to East Tennessee to pastor three small churches. Both an introvert and extrovert, too cynical in mind and not enough of a romantic at heart. Love coffee, friends and books. Maybe not in that order. View my complete profile.

LEARNING TO WALK: March 2009
http://ogleing.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Good, Smart, Christian Folks. It has become quite clear to me, in the course of the last week, that I hang out with a bunch of very good and very smart people. This is only in one day, and doesn't count the dinner Erin and I had with Ben and Laura as we discussed our respective ventures in the academy and the church, as well as bookshelf construction. In the surprise of the night Laura actually declared that I sounded quite pastoral. During Lent. I get the chance to speak f...

LEARNING TO WALK: Saturday Afternoon Special
http://ogleing.blogspot.com/2010/04/saturday-afternoon-special.html
Saturday, April 3, 2010. I once won a preaching award, not so much because of my own skill, but because a friend of mine nominated me for it. And because I believe that the sermon matters, a large part of my week is spent preparing for my sermon. Now, of course I do pastoral care, and I teach Bible study, and I pray and I visit and I do all those things, but I do believe that a large part of my job is in my sermon preparation and execution. And then there is Holy Week. As Debbie. April 3, 2010 at 2:40 PM.

LEARNING TO WALK: February 2009
http://ogleing.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 26, 2009. David Brooks and Original Sin. Since when did David Brooks, the conservative voice on the New York Times Editorial Page and one of the smartest columnists in the country, start talking about Original Sin? Brooks wrote a fascinating column. While these are debates that so-called conservatives and so-called progressives have been debating for centuries, what is fascinating for me is that this debate goes all the way back to Augustine and to the Garden. If we believe that ou...

http://ogleing.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 20, 2010. I've been making my way through some form of ministry with people (monks, students, religious professionals, country church folk)for the better part of two years now. I had been able to put it off for this long, but finally I decided to dive back in - not to the blog, but to theological reading. So, I'll let you know how it goes. But for now, here's my dance card for the next couple of weeks. An Altar in the World, Barbara Brown Taylor. Knowing Christ Today, Dallas Willard.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009. And it's four months. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.". Each week in our bulletin, I provide a famous quote which I simply label, For personal reflection: Its my inner Wayne Albertson being expressed, and my congregation has embraced this practice.
