Father. Husband. Learner. October 11, 2013. These are nails. They live on a windowsill near the top of the stairs at my house. They are happily retired. There are six of them. I walk by them several times in a day. Every time I do they go unnoticed. Their kinsmen live in the wall a few feet away. Some are gainfully employed, holding up picture frames with photos of my boys. Others are just jutting out of the wall, actively waiting for work. They have been unemployed for half a year. But the nails remained.
