The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. Delta – Experimental Practice. Back in December 2010, after 9 months of hard work, I completed the Cambridge Delta. I thought I would post one of the first pieces of work I completed during the course here. This is rather long, so feel free to skip over the boring bits! I’ve included the contents page to make the skipping over easier! NB This work is not to be republished anywhere without my consent.

The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. Props, Supports and Prescriptions. April 26, 2012. As teachers, as trainers, as people in this world, what are we to those around us? Are we there to guide? It’s a dangerous assumption to make that we, as educators, are here to mould those we work with into our own vision of what makes a good teacher or a perfect variety of English, or even the best type of learner. I have written about this before,.

However, I doubt there are many/any teacher training centres which divide up their trainees in this way. (Please correct me if I am wrong! Is this a problem? Does this mean some trainees will miss out?

Lead by example. | Unplugged Reflections

https://unpluggedreflections.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/lead-by-example

The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. May 2, 2012. A – We can’t train them in the same way we expect them to teach. B – Why not? This little conversation shows a lot about the beliefs which underpin the two speakers’ attitudes to teacher training, does it not? Or because what we do as trainers doesn’t translate into the classroom? Surely it is better to introduce trainees to the idea that grammar is not the be-all and end-all of language...

EFL thoughts and reflections. March 25, 2012. Bringing the outside in by George Chilton. Bringing the outside in. I’m very honoured to be writing a guest post on Phil’s blog. He has asked me to look at some of the benefits and drawbacks of using authentic materials in class. I encourage my students to talk, question and debate the materials and topics I provide them, as much as possible. They take the class in new directions, which prepares them for real-life conversations and communication in English.

Racist pronunciation work | EFL thoughts and reflections

https://eflthoughtsandreflections.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/racist-pronunciation-work

EFL thoughts and reflections. July 31, 2012. This is my 100th post. I was quite surprised to realise it but WordPress can’t be wrong. To celebrate I thought of doing a ‘looking back in…’ post but then thought that it would be a bit dull so I would like to do a ‘looking forward in…’ one instead. 1)A dogme book, or at least an attempt at one. 2)A tech overload backlash and a return to non-tech (controversial! 3)Cheaper and cheaper materials with lower quality thus making them affordable. 11)International B...
