One More Thing

Monday, July 9, 2012. One of the lies I've not realized I was believing - but which I picked up from every school I've attended - is that time is never really lost. Perhaps it was a late paper I could turn in for no penalty. Perhaps it was the all-nighter I used in place of daily diligence, daily study, and daily review. Or perhaps it was the right mix of compassion and charm. My solution was to sacrifice sleep, quality, and memory. Time is not reclaimable. And get some sleep! Monday, May 21, 2012. Marke...

Monday, May 21, 2012. One of the more interesting differences between paper books and web pages is trust. We trust paper books to have a fairly well-defined kind of information. Books usually have a quite well-known manner of presentation. Given cover/jacket, Summary, and marketing, the book is effectively static. You can trust a book to be and do what a book is. Blogs are different; there are far less constraints to presentation. Content, too, has no guarantee of consistency. Blogs are more of a gamble.

Saturday, May 19, 2012. Part of your daily challenge is nicely captured thusly:. Your job is to inform your readers. In fact, a best-case scenarios would be to provide a crucial piece of information. Read up on your niche's state-of-the-art. Learned of any active bargains. Identified something distinctive worth sharing. Then your task is dissemination. A well-connected blog will necessarily be part of a network. Part of that will be links to and from your blog. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Ruth Cooper Project: May 2011

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Monday, May 2, 2011. Day 504: Finish Line. or Mile Marker. About three weeks ago, something happened. Finally, after nine months (almost to the day) and hundreds of hours of hard work and determination, that scale registered a number; a one-derful number. My weight started with a "one" and I had lost 119 pounds! This was an amazing event. I couldn't believe it. I was now within 28 pounds of my goal weight. closer than I'd ever dared dream! And three weeks passed. Other areas are ...

The Ruth Cooper Project: September 2010

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Sunday, September 19, 2010. Day 279: There is No Tri. Only Do! A gentle recurring click from the front wheel of my racing bicycle complemented the almost-silent thud of my snack bag as it swayed with my hurried gait. A brisk breeze caught me off guard as it swooped through an alley and swirled around my head. it was 6:30 in the morning and colder then I expected. It was two-thirds of a mile from the start and transition area. A request for my racing number brought me to focus on ...

The Ruth Cooper Project: Day 884: One Year from Now

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2012/05/day-884-one-year-from-now.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Day 884: One Year from Now. In Hebrews, we are reminded we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses and Mark reminds us nothing is done in secret which shall not be seen in the light. I started this blog 883 days ago as a form of accountability and a way to embody a small percentage of the cloud of witnesses I know are watching. This blog has been re-activated. This blog has (apparently) inspired others during it's heyday, so I'm hoping to be inspi...

The Ruth Cooper Project: July 2012

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Day 953: Cutting Lessons. My house has a tendency to look overgrown. There is a row of overfull, unwieldy azaleas which have been steadily taking over; rising above the windows, overshadowing the walkway, spilling their wildness into every available space. Across the street and to one side of us, beautifully cared-for yards display restrained and controlled beauty - a degree of elegance which, I will admit, I envy. With reluctance, I began to cut each bran...

The Ruth Cooper Project. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Day 623: Outrun, Outwit, Outlast. Grey and gently breezy, with just a hint of Fall to come, would be a great way to describe six am on Saturday morning. There was a hurricane on the way, but for almost eleven hundred runners, the Patrick Henry Half Marathon had to be run. My Shamrock half marathon time had been three hours and six minutes. My half Ironman run time had been three hours and twenty-one minutes (after 56 miles of biking). This race I...I don...

The Ruth Cooper Project. Monday, June 6, 2011. Day 539: Training and Commensurate Ennui. After many profound brain things in my head, it shocked me to realize I have been thinking a lot about "being ready". Two tiny little words with such weighty import and elusive meaning. to me, at least. A little crushed (okay. a LOT crushed), I started toying with the idea that maybe I wasn't supposed to do THAT Ironman, but perhaps another would be acceptable. Some research turned up another event at the end...That ...

The Ruth Cooper Project. Friday, July 30, 2010. Day 228: There Is No Try. Well I've gone and done it now. As of 2:37 this afternoon, I am officially registered as a participant in the 28th Annual Sandman Triathlon in Virginia Beach. I have never done anything even remotely like this in my entire life. Having actually registered and actually paid real money for this event, I am walking the bridge which lies over the Knowing-Doing Gap. How many of these dreams, goals, and desires will remain just that?

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Day 254: Evil-less Love. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Proverbs 31:12. I do not think it means what you think it means.". So why the "demotivational" poster above? Starting at the beginning, the Hebrew word describing the "good" this woman does to her husband all the days of his life is "towb." This describes good in the broadest, most general sense. All kinds of good; just good in general. Nice stuff. I find it so easy to ...

http://theruthcooperproject.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

The Ruth Cooper Project. Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Day 980: Concentric Circles. The rapidly-heating water bubbled tauntingly around the slices of onion in the pan; splashes playfully flicking off grains of pepper and salt before subsiding into oblivion. Mindlessly, I picked at the onion slices with a fork, each one perfectly round and consisting of so many perfect concentric circles. Ring by ring, I transformed the precise structures into a tumbled, chaotic beauty. It simply had never occurred to me.
