Well, I think I know a lot of you on Twitter and Facebook these days, so it's not like I've really been out of touch, right? So comfy on the couch. The only bright side is that we recently got a new cat after 15 months of being a catless home! I need a good blog name for her instead of her actual name. Getting toward mid-career and still finding my way. Tuesday, December 19, 2006. I think that the students who make an effort, do get something out of the course and should receive a decent grade in return. So why is it that I feel guilty or as if I have failed somehow as an instructor if very few of my students are earning C's and D's? Higher than in past semesters, but the exam scores were high this semester. Maybe my TA was too easy of a grader? That I prepared them so well that they excelled on exams?

My questions to everyone out there is this: How does your department or university determine teaching load? Are there variations between faculty in the same department? I think my department needs to see how others do it elsewhere and see if any of those fit for us- otherwise, our discussions are going nowhere!
