Commitment to Our Supporters. People pushed their babies at us, tugged at our sleeves with tears in their eyes. And begged us to help. Kathleen Magee, Operation Smile. Operation Smile was founded in 1982 when Dr. William (Bill) P. Magee, Jr., a plastic surgeon, and his wife, Kathleen (Kathy), a nurse and clinical social worker, traveled to the Philippines with a group of medical volunteers to repair children's cleft lips and cleft palates. They saw the need and Operation Smile was born. THE NEED IS GREAT .

Commitment to Our Supporters. Our patients experience significant financial, geographic and cultural barriers to accessing care. Operation Smile works hand-in-hand with local medical professionals, governments, hospitals and other NGOs to break down those barriers and ensure that children around the world get the care they deserve. By convening care providers from around the world, we know that the idea exchange, problem-solving and conversation with like-minded partners will result in relevant solutions.

Twins undergo surgery together. Twins Katherine and Donari receive surgery for their cleft conditions during a medical mission in Honduras. Danila: A bright spirit, a bright smile. Growing up was hard for Danila as other children frequently made fun of her facial condition. Every child that has a facial deformity is our responsibility.
