Who’s with me? What’s my route? March 10, 2010. Danke schon, darling. When we decided, upon my brother’s urging, to book flights to Berlin, I was at once intimidated and utterly stoked. Not only had I heard amazing things about the German capital from the kind of people from whom you want to take advice (read: cool kids), but finally, I thought, my seven (yes, seven! Years of German lessons* might pay off. (Spoiler: They did. Or at least…so far, so good.). Laquo; Yorkshire: A lesson. On March 15, 2010.

Who’s with me? What’s my route? March 1, 2010. How to…drink (whiskey) like a Scot. I’m gonna to go ahead and make a pretty brash generalization when I say this, but it has been my observation that North Carolinians (Southerners in general, really) drink more whiskey than the average American. It’s not uncommon to hear “Maker’s – neat” as the order of choice at bars across the state, and I surprise my New York friends often when I (a girl! 3 Whiskey should be drunk on ice or with nothing. If one needs...

Who’s with me? What’s my route? March 18, 2010. Final thoughts: Berlin, Paris. Anyway, so I’m not going to write a long, dramatic post about what I thought about each museum or landmark I passed. Rather, I’ll make a list, and perhaps I’ll have more time later to wax poetic:. Stayed in Prenzlauer Berg. Ate at I Due Forni. Saw Yeasayer at Postbahnhof. Went to the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Went to the DDR Museum (small, fascinating, hands-on). Had lunch at the top floor market of KaDeWe. As I said before.

Who’s with me? What’s my route? March 9, 2010. Today is a transition day. After spending almost two weeks in Scotland and Northern England, we are finally heading to Berlin and Western Europe. In retrospect, I probably could have spent fewer days in the UK, but the time there provided a relaxing way to ease into things. And lucky for me (? For example, some must-know key terms:. Who’s with me? What’s my route? March 17, 2010. Ah, Versailles. Really, aside from all the hoopla and revolution and beheading and corruption and “let them eat cake”-ing, after visiting Versailles, I’d say there’s something to be said for being married to the Sun King. Let’s just say this place owns the market on high ceilings and good light. Laquo; Paris, I love you. Real talk. Final thoughts: Berlin, Paris. Is it terrible that i spent three days in a row coming back to Versailles? On March 19, 2010.
