Making Molehills out of Mountains Since 2008. So it’s been a while. No, I haven’t been running. Not for a month or so. Haven’t been swimming, either, for about 3 weeks. There’s been problems. With both legs. Well, one prosthesis, and one leg. The other leg that’s been giving me problems is not my running leg. It’s my left leg. My. I showed up ready to start running. Didn’t even walk. Sitting. He had me do a lot of sitting. Slightly less sitting than laying down, though. Best Training session. Ever. Appar...
Pulling My Leg | Uphill Rider
https://uphillrider.wordpress.com/2012/02/21/pulling-my-leg
Making Molehills out of Mountains Since 2008. My calf felt fine. Really, it did. No worries at all. So, since I didn’t have to go to work Monday, why not spend an hour on the track? I can tell you why not. Because I’ve got a muscle pull, that’s why not. I was hoping that the pull I felt last week was due to the steep angle of the very short track at the Monroe YMCA, where I was running. So, I decided to go to the Metrocenter branch to do my running yesterday morning. The track there is. To give it some m...

Making Molehills out of Mountains Since 2008. In The Moment. Or Not. Things have been really, really busy in my life. Hence, the lack of activity on this site. And on top of that, I’ve been beset by problems in my training. Both physical and technical. And mental. Yes, that’s uncomfortable for me to do. I feel very self-conscious when I do stuff like that. But it beats not doing the work. Wow Did I really just write that? Actually, I do know what I want to do. It’s going to take some work and s...And the...

Making Molehills out of Mountains Since 2008. So last night, I tried running again. I did the shortened stride thing, as it was suggested to me. I carefully landed on the ball of my foot, or flat, as was suggested to me. And the pulled muscle on the inside of my calf did not get injured. Instead, I got a pull on the outside of my calf this time. Am I going to have let every muscle in my lower leg complain to me before I can start running? April 5, 2012. Posted by uphillrider on April 5, 2012. You are com...

Making Molehills out of Mountains Since 2008. I’ve received several comments about yesterday’s post telling me that it sounded self-pitying. I find that interesting, because I wasn’t aware of that emotion when I wrote it. And reading it now, I still don’t see it. I tried to write about where I am, emotionally, with nothing added, and nothing taken away, and I didn’t. Her-and kept on going. In the eyes of the law, she is classified as 100% disabled as a result of this accident. Tragic. Melody Gardot sings...

Dork-o-Rama: The Random Thoughts of a Total Goofball. Embracing the Dork Side.Because Life is Too Short to Take Yourself Too Seriously. Saturday, December 31, 2005. Rain, rain go away. No, seriously. enough! Posted by terry @ 12:35 PM. Friday, December 30, 2005. Here comes the jackpot question in advance. What are you doing New Year's. My fondest NYE memory: the year I went to Tahoe with Kimmy, Guppy, Sherri and her husband Andrew. Oh, yeah, the ex-hub was there too. Whatever. Anyway. Omi...Then there wa...

Dork-o-Rama: The Random Thoughts of a Total Goofball. Embracing the Dork Side.Because Life is Too Short to Take Yourself Too Seriously. Monday, February 27, 2006. This thing itches and hurts and I want to RIP IT OFF MY LIP NOW. But that would just mess up the healing process. So I'm trying to remain calm. I'm trying to be one with my ginormous cold sore. Sounds like somebody has a case of the Mondays. Okay, you remember how I was going on about how much I like the Olympics? Maybe I should go to Vancouver...
Cul de Sac Blues: Watching Television
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2010/05/watching-television.html
Sunday, May 16, 2010. See ya later, alligator. A recent news story in the old town was the subject of conversation at the local coffee cathedral. Oscar, Little Doug and your agent were in attendance. The story concerned the slow, but steady removal of outgoing mail delivery boxes on the old town's streets. Apparently, it won't be long before they disappear entirely. If you want to mail something, you'll have to go to a postal outlet. These are typically located in grocery and drug stores. A white pickup ...
Cul de Sac Blues: June 2010
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 20, 2010. It's our flag, eh? More verbal shenanigans between Oscar and Weed. . . . . It's rather common in these parts to hear someone adding "eh? I remain very doubtful about all of this. Oscar, however, also had something to say about Weed's use of "eh? During a recent stop at the local coffee cathedral. He said he detected a distinct "h" at the beginning of the utterance. This made it sound like "hey? To get a bigger rise out of Oscar, Weed started to say "hey? According to Norma, Dirk ha...
Cul de Sac Blues: Traditional Fare
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2010/04/traditional-fare.html
Saturday, April 17, 2010. Flowers growing somewhere else. For folks in these parts, Easter brings the first long weekend of the year. The provincial government has been nattering on for years about creating a February holiday, but nothing ever comes to pass. Oscar says the absence of a statutory holiday during the dark days of winter is disgraceful. At the very least, he thinks a mid-winter break would be good for everyone's mental health. He could be right about this. Oscar smiled broadly in agreement.
Cul de Sac Blues: February 2010
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. Press conferences are for the birds. I mean that quite literally. My first ever press conference was held before a gallery of birds in the Wonders' backyard. A flock of American Goldfinches filled the trees before being scattered by the arrival of Little Doug's cat, Stephen. That wasn't very interesting," he said finally. I'm sorry that you feel that way," I replied eventually. More silence passed. Then the woodpecker asked, "You got anything else? Oscar says that event continu...
Cul de Sac Blues: Holy Smokes
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2011/02/holy-smokes.html
Sunday, February 06, 2011. BLOGGUS INTERRUPTUS: Your agent has been busy moving mountains and then carefully putting them back where they belong. I haven't been able to get anywhere near the blogging machine. Meanwhile, Sack news has piled up at an alarming rate. Great bales of the stuff fill the cul de sac blues. Head office. Today's yarn was spun from a half-standing position more likely to be seen in a yoga class. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow. Weed, Little Doug's de facto. T did not take long...
Cul de Sac Blues: To the Bitter End
http://streetwind.blogspot.com/2011/10/to-bitter-end.html
Sunday, October 30, 2011. To the Bitter End. You're in the back seat of a taxi as it motors into the Sack. It's early in the morning so the cul-de-sac is quiet. Small trees line the sides of the street, one for each of the modest dwellings. You observe that most homes are decently kept and seem in good repair. Discarded bicycles and a smattering of errant toys make it easy to deduce where Sack kids reside. As the taxi maneuvers further into the circle, your attention is drawn sharply to a house with a pa...
On the Verge: Doodle Doo

Fetching life, one dog at a time. The edge, brink, or margin (of something): also used figuratively the verge of the forest, on the verge of hysteria. To tend or incline (to or toward). To be in the process of change or transition into something else; pass gradually (into) dawn verging into daylight. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Foul swoop he storms right by me to strut atop the can of oats and then yells ( directly. That he wants his breakfast, and he wants it NOW. He's surrounded by them. Constantly. The do...

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad
Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Sunday, August 16, 2015. The Most Important Things. At last satisfied with the arrangement of the room, we went to gather our stuff and wait patiently for everyone to arrive. My heart sunk with the realization that the man had no intention of using the bathroom. With equal parts anger and distress, I sprinted out of the chapel. Looking down both streets, I could see no sign of the man or my bag. All I could see was a busy street of cars and buses. ...When the day ...

VII Sappee UpHill Run 23.5.2015 - Ylämäkijuoksun epävirallinen SM-kilpailu
VII Sappee UpHillRun 23.5.2015 klo 15:00. ONLY ONE HILL | A Sea-Level Runner's Journey to the Mount Washington Road Race
A Sea-Level Runner's Journey to the Mount Washington Road Race. Running Up A Hill For Fun. April 17, 2015. Hills are unavoidable in running. They’re not fun. Most of the time all it takes is one solid hill for me to start questioning all of my life choices. And it’s only an acceptable climate at the summit like, 4 days out of the year. (I don’t actually know but that seems like an appropriate estimation). 8221; immediately followed by, “FUCK.”. So now I’m training, and I decided to blog about the t...
