When it’s over, you worry about everything else. Filling up that worry with good things to carry it away like water helps. Yesterday was one of those good days between seasons. We collected a painting we commissioned and hung it up. It is working already. We’d admired Rachel Teannalach. Compositions. “Salute to An...Yesterd...

Agony and Irony | Chukar Hunting

July 2, 2015. Midget Devil in action. 8220;This, too, shall pass.”. God, I certainly hope so. He’s 13 weeks old today, and continues to piss on the floor whenever he fancies. Peat does show moments of calm affection, and has actually begun sleeping on the bed with us through the night. And he is a pleasure to look at regardless of his behavior. But the puppy and his puppiness is wearing us out and has propelled our stress levels through the roof. Angus of the Chukar Hills. July 2, 2015 at 2:03 pm. My Bri...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: January 2010
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 28, 2010. Trainers and training books can show you the hows and whys. Their methods work very well, but once again, a lot of the things they have i ncorporated. That some times take off well after the others have departed. I thought it would be kind of neat to have a dog that was a little closer to a trial dog. I was wrong. What do I expect from my dogs? My dogs are all males so it's easier if I just refer to our dogs as him. As far as obedience commands I just expect him to. So treat y...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: April 2010
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 25, 2010. Turkey hunting has it's rewards. There is a lot more to it than just shooting a bird. The weather is usually pretty good which gives you time to sit and just reminisce. The other animals you encounter in the spring are also a plus. Turkeys seem to like the same type of environment as elk in the spring. There are also multiple grouse mating this time of the year. My son has been successful more than once with us. As has been my brother Tom. And my chukar hunting buddy Greg. I don't...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: July 2010
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 18, 2010. Having an opened mind. The wolves are killing the elk, it's too hot in September now, too many people, fires, just no elk anymore, and many other excuses for their lack of success. Since I'm not out there chasing elk anymore I try and keep an open mind. Maybe the elk numbers are down. What has this got to do with chukars? I think when you have as strong of an opinion as he had than you should give a little more effort. Links to this post. Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Links to this post.

TUCKERS CHUKARS: Hot and Dry
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2015/06/hot-and-dry.html
Monday, June 22, 2015. We try to get up on the mountain early to beat the heat but it's getting tougher each week. About two hours of hiking and we're out of water so we keep our trips shorter. As dry as it is, there are plenty of seeps and hidden springs for the birds and other wildlife. The birds aren't in danger of lack of water and if grass hoppers are any sign of how the other insects are doing they won't starve to death either. Still, I'm excited to see some young ones. TUCKERS CHUKARS: Jake's post: Follow me
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2015/07/jakes-post-follow-me.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. Jake's post: Follow me. As the summer days shorten and the temperatures drop, the urge to be on the mountain becomes stronger and stronger. My instinct to find birds is stronger as autumn approaches. My main purpose in life is to lead you to places where the upland birds hang out. A beautiful piece of writing straight from the heart. Oh, the memories become so much more important as we age. I guess we have figured out what is important in life and what isnt. I can rel...Grasshopp...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: Where are they hiding?
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2015/07/where-are-they-hiding.html
Thursday, July 16, 2015. Where are they hiding? After reading some reviews by the Nevada chukar hunters, I have decided that Jake and I aren't looking hard enough. They are reporting many young bird sightings and by the pictures most birds were hatched pretty early this year. Hopefully that holds true in the Owyhees. I don't get down there for any scouting and wait for reports from Greg Allen on those birds. And a little later found this hen with only two young ones. We got a few pictures before we heard...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: November 2010
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. After 2 and 1/2 hours of walking and not seeing any sign of a chukar I was getting a disappointed but I knew that I had always found birds in this area in the past. With the help of Riley I finally found them. They just all seemed to know where the good eating was, and it wasn't down low. Links to this post. Tuesday, November 23, 2010. I also spend a lot of time looking for bird scat as I'm walking. If there is bird sign there are birds somewhere. It's impossible for t...Tucke...

TUCKERS CHUKARS: Quail
http://tuckerschukars.blogspot.com/2015/06/quail.html
Monday, June 29, 2015. There were at least a dozen small birds with this hen and I encountered another covey with an equal amount of young ones. I'm sure I'll find the chukar numbers are good also as soon as this heat wave passes. First quick scout trip on chukar to one of my count spots, and I was not in the area at prime chukar spotting time. Saw 5 hatches between 3-7 weeks old, most were approx 5 weeks. Hatch size was good for all age groups. One large hatch was approx 60% grown. Bad news good news.
