Hash Marks: As if Texas needed bulletin board material
http://burntorangesports.blogspot.com/2008/08/as-if-texas-needed-bulletin-board.html
Tuesday, August 26, 2008. As if Texas needed bulletin board material. With football season about to.(don't do it, Ryan.) kick off (wow, you did it), I hope/plan to check in more often. Florida Atlantic comes to Austin for the season opener in four days, and Owls head coach Howard Schnellenberger is confident that his squad can put up a fight. Why, he's down right cocky. Should really rethink his approach. He proudly proclaims himself the sports editor of FAU's University Press, and he covers the team....

Under the Microscope: December 2007
http://upscience.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
A blog about science and technology — on a level that any college student could understand. Tuesday, December 11, 2007. What's in a name. We are approaching that blissful week between the end of final exams and the posting of grades. If you are afraid that you did poorly on a final or two, it may not just be the result of poor study habits: It turns out that your name may be to blame. Frankly, more research has to be done on the topic before I'm willing to believe it. While there may be flaws in the ...

Under the Microscope: July 2007

A blog about science and technology — on a level that any college student could understand. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. College Promotes Drug Addiction. Spend enough time on any college campus, and you will see that most students ingest some sort of caffeinated beverage daily, whether it's soda, an energy drink or coffee. According to Newsweek. We don't drink our daily lattes for the taste: We drink them because we are addicted to caffeine. And while caffeine will keep you awake for your next class, it may a...

Under the Microscope: A combination of things
http://upscience.blogspot.com/2008/04/combination-of-things.html
A blog about science and technology — on a level that any college student could understand. Tuesday, April 8, 2008. A combination of things. Throughout life, we learn to associate colors with different tasks: red means stop, yellow means caution, and red and yellow together mean McDonald’s. Apparently some women can see more colors than the rest of us, which may cause them to spend more time comparing shades of hairdye. Called tetrachromats. Says Scientific American. This was done in an effort to fig...

Under the Microscope: We're going in circles again
http://upscience.blogspot.com/2008/04/were-going-in-circles-again.html
A blog about science and technology — on a level that any college student could understand. Tuesday, April 1, 2008. We're going in circles again. Not most students, apparently. So, based on research done by real scientists, I've drawn my own conclusions about why we would rather drive in circles than walk a few extra yards. One possible reason is that our brains are full; there's just not enough room to remember our multiplication tables, all six American Idol winners. Odds are that these bullies are you...
