Listening to Ms Quindlen talk about reading, I tried to recall the title of the first book to make me feel less alone, to help me feel I had a friend beyond the living room couch. And here is a good article from the Hartford Courant about the importance of support groups for caregivers http:/ touch.courant.com/#section/2225/article/p2...Oh my...

Here is a Kiss … Mom and Dad. A place to share information about eldercare and aging in general……. On packing… →. June 11, 2012. So, as POA (Power of Attorney) for both parents, I was responsible for paying their bills. Bill payment had always been my father’s job and as kids, we all high-tailed it when the heavy green strongbox was set down on the kitchen table (next to an ashtray and pack of Marlboroughs). Our father seldom swore, but you could count on it that one evening a month. BT’s, Sage Allen.

Here is a Kiss … Mom and Dad. A place to share information about eldercare and aging in general……. On kitchen tables…. Moving on… →. December 11, 2013. Or how we’d visit my Nonie on Christmas Eve – climb the dark, narrow stairs to her apartment, smelling stinky fish fried in dough (my father’s favorite) and plain fried dough topped with sugar (my favorite). Much later we’d drive home searching the sky for reindeer. I will remember the very first Christmas in my own apartment. My son and I determined ...

Experiments in Revision, Part 1. In 2007, I was visiting my friend Owen at his art show: portraits on the grandest scale done in aerosol on 8′ x 8′ panels. It was the last hour of the last day of the Durham Art Walk in North Carolina. When all of the passers by stopped passing by, I helped him take down those works that had not sold. Then he stepped on each skillfully rendered face, pulled up at the edges of the panels and broke all of them into pieces small enough to fit in the scrap bin. In this spirit...
