Uranium City, 1978: August 2005

http://www.uraniumcity.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Uranium City, 1978. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. The First Leg: Vancouver. Well, here is the first batch of photos! The first leg of my journey to the West was Vancouver, where I dropped in on my pal of pals Clayton and did my best to invade his privacy. Clayton is not the skinny arts student I remember. He used to be at least as skinny as me but after starting to work out regulary he blossomed into a real man's body. (Proving that not all vegans must necessarily be as skinny as me. Take note! As I mentio...

Uranium City, 1978: May 2005

http://www.uraniumcity.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html

Uranium City, 1978. Tuesday, May 24, 2005. A bunch of coworkers and my friend Ivan and I all went out to see Star Wars together when it opened on Friday. We saw it at a suitably sci-fi building- the Core Pacific City Living Mall. Rather an unwieldy name, I think. It isn't that there is a place called the Living Mall inside another place called Core Pacific City, but rather all five words are a single name for a single place. This is what it looks like:. Before going to the movie, I was worried that I had...

Uranium City, 1978: The Second Leg: Grande Prairie and Sexsmith

http://www.uraniumcity.blogspot.com/2005/11/second-leg-grande-prairie-and-sexsmith.html

Uranium City, 1978. Saturday, November 05, 2005. The Second Leg: Grande Prairie and Sexsmith. My apologies for the long wait, but here are a selection of photos from the second leg of my great Canadian journey home. My mom and dad picked me up from the bus stop in Hinton, shaving about 6 hours off my trip from Vancouver to Grande Praire (via Calgary! Quite out of the way, if you know your Western Canadian geography). Needless to say it was great to see them again after a two year absence. My bro and my p...

Uranium City, 1978. Friday, February 24, 2006. The Third Leg: Edmonton and Camrose. Seven months have passed since my trip back to Canada, and I fear I can put off the final installment pictures no longer. On the bus from Grande Prairie to Edmonton, we stopped in a small town called Sangudo. I was, as I had been in Sexsmith, strangely drawn to the architecture of the village’s main street. I was also surprised to see that the formerly grassy square had been paved over. My gracious host Kasia who not only...

Carpentering for the Carpenter: March 2005

http://carpenteringelmerfud.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html

Carpentering for the Carpenter. Thursday, March 24, 2005. Rev Jack Hockney is welcoming me as a newly Ordained Minister with the Assciated Gospel Church of Canada. (Similar to I.F.C.A. in the U.S.) I was ordained in Uranium City Evangelical Church on January 28, 1979. Both my parents and Colleen's parents were there for the event. It was a blessed time. Dad Smith taught Jon (who was 6 months old) to eat table food. He never ate baby food again! What about my Ordination? We serve a living Saviour. That's ...

Carpentering for the Carpenter: Minor Setback

http://carpenteringelmerfud.blogspot.com/2011/02/minor-setback.html

Carpentering for the Carpenter. Wednesday, February 02, 2011. After a month of waiting I finally got back to the family farm. I spent the past three days out there getting dirty and greasy. I was working on the old tractor I am in the process of restoring. The first task has been to get the engine running. On Monday, Bill (my brother) helped me set the repaired cylinder head onto the engine. Probably the most important task is torquing down the head bolts. This is what 150 foot/pounds looks like! In I mu...

http://carpenteringelmerfud.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-we-celebrated-our-anniversary.html

Carpentering for the Carpenter. Sunday, July 04, 2010. How We Celebrated our Anniversary. I worked all day while Colleen took charge of Roger and Jonny. We had Pizza for supper. Jonny wasn't very hungry. When his stomach erupted we found out why. But we carried on with our planned evening. We took the boys to Toy Story 3. We all loved it. And no problems with Jonny. Then it was home for a long summer evening's nap! Posted by Mister Ed T @ 2:13 PM. I do hope so.Love ya. Went out for Notchos. Convert C to F.

Carpentering for the Carpenter: Defibulation

http://carpenteringelmerfud.blogspot.com/2010/12/defibulation.html

Carpentering for the Carpenter. Wednesday, December 15, 2010. The restoration process is taking its time! Today I finally was successful at unseizing the tractor's engine. The process:. Soak cylinders with diesel fuel (about two gallons). Let soak for about two months. Try loosing the seized engine by rocking the tractor back and forth. Remove head and replace diesel fuel with rubbing alcohol. Loosen the seized piston by hitting it with a fire log the right size and a big hammer. View my complete profile.

A federal judge in Phoenix has blocked the British mining company, VANE Minerals Group, from exploring for uranium near the Grand Canyon. US District Judge Mary Murguia issued a temporary restraining order, stopping the drilling late Friday after an environmental group sued the US Forest Service which issued the permission allowing VANE to start drilling. The forest service approved the drilling in December, using a 'categorical exclusion', which they believed required only minimal environmental review.
