April 2016 – urbangardeninghamburg

https://urbangardeninghamburg.wordpress.com/2016/04

Gardening in and around Hamburg, Germany. A lazy gardener’s best friend. Being a somewhat lazy gardener means I love things that self-seed themselves or come back year after year. Poking around in the garden today, I’ve already found wild rocket, mint, lemon balm, chives, redcurrant and strawberries that are braving the cold without me having to lift a single finger 🙂. Meet our garden neighbours :). From gardening in apple crates in the shade to a sunny piece of a field. Blog at WordPress.com.

May 2016 – urbangardeninghamburg

https://urbangardeninghamburg.wordpress.com/2016/05

Gardening in and around Hamburg, Germany. Someone has cleared away the messy, unkept grass and made a cute little guerrilla garden. Coffee grounds. Free to a good home. Do any Hamburg cafes hand out used coffee grounds? Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Please take some coffee grinds for your garden! What gardener could resist that? Well, unfortunately I had to as I was just a tourist passing by. But I was seriously tempted to drag some home to the friends we were staying with. Urban gardening in London. And next do...

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Bokashi in the world. Bokashi in the Philippines. June 12, 2009. Anyway, here the Manilla Bulletin Publishing Corporation. The US Department of Agriculture has recently done some research into whether this works or not and came up with a positive result — yes, EM improves productivity, provided it is added in conjunction with organic material. Yes, we can get it right! Read more here on REAP Canada’s website. What’s Bokashi got to do with lunch? March 1, 2011 at 9:07 am. We’ve...

2015: International Year of the Soils | Jenny's Bokashi Blog

https://bokashiworld.wordpress.com/2015/02/20/2015-international-year-of-the-soils

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Soil and food security. 2015: International Year of the Soils. February 20, 2015. We have been talking about pollution, the environment, climate change and the future of the planet for decades. We talk about the air, about the water, about sound pollution, plastic and deforestation. But when was the last time you ever heard anyone talking about our soil? About the fact that if we blow it we won’t eat. Where does it go? And soil, as we know, takes a hell of a time to build. So we cou...

When there’s just no space left… | Jenny's Bokashi Blog

https://bokashiworld.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/when-theres-just-no-space-left

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. When there’s just no space left…. July 24, 2014. Here in Sweden we’re having a fantastic summer, everything is growing like hell and there is absolutely nowhere left to dig down a bokashi bucket even if you wanted to. We’ve dealt with this somewhat luxury problem by setting up a bottomless barrel right in the middle of the garden bed. Doesn’t look that glamourous I have to admit, but it works brilliantly. It’s not so silly to throw in some scrap paper sometimes, toilet paper r...

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. What to do with your Bokashi when you live in a flat. February 24, 2009. Bokashi works just fine in an apartment, you fill your bucket under the kitchen sink just like anyone else. But every two or three weeks you’ll have a fully fermented bucket on your hands and the question is what to do about it then. I thought this thread. And if the handover itself is tricky, you can always transfer the contents to a tightly-knotted plastic bag. Tip it into your neighbour’s compost b...But I&#...

https://bokashiworld.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/using-silage-with-bokashi-as-mulch

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Using silage with Bokashi as mulch. June 13, 2013. The other day we managed to get home our annual hay bale, always a good day around here! We live in the country and on every field you can see a pile of these white silage bales. The thing is, many of these bales turn bad. The plastic fails, the rain gets in, they start to rot. Which means they have no value whatsover to the farmers as they can’t be used as fodder. Embarrassingly quick and easy. No digging at all. On the oth...The o...

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Even pet waste can be recycled with Bokashi. April 15, 2011. I’ve had a few questions lately about cat litter and how to use it in conjunction with Bokashi. There’s a lot of good information here on Bokashicycle,. A great US-based company working with Bokashi in many applications. And good luck with those cat trays! Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Bokashi instead of chemicals in El Salvador. November 15, 2013. Interesting. Inspiring. And a positive boost to the hope account. After years of hard-hitting chemical usage, local communities in El Salvador are going green. Out with Monsanto and its “free” seeds, in with EM and Bokashi. Have a read. Drain your scraps before they land in the Bokashi bin! | Jenny's Bokashi Blog

https://bokashiworld.wordpress.com/2014/03/18/drain-your-scraps-before-they-land-in-the-bokashi-bin

Jenny's Bokashi Blog. Drain your scraps before they land in the Bokashi bin! March 18, 2014. One of biggest frustrations people have with their Bokashi bin, it seems, is that now and then it smells. The reason a Bokashi bin starts to smell is, nearly always, that it’s simply too wet in there. No amount of bran will help, you simply ha. How do you know when it’s too wet in your bin? Next time you open your bin, check the underside of the lid. Condensation? Usually the newspaper will be. By this time the p...
