Urban Grown: May 2009

http://urbangrown.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Because locavores are people too. Saturday, May 30, 2009. Me and the bean(stalk). The quinoa and some of the carrots have sprouted, though I may have to resow some carrots as they are sporadic and the germination rate left something to be desired. A quinoa seedling:. Everything in the cloche is faring rather well, though I have yet to establish a satisfactory method for securing the plastic along the base of the pvc that is in contact with the ground. Perhaps it's time to bring out the zip ties. Now the ...

Urban Grown: June 2009

http://urbangrown.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Because locavores are people too. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Stole a picture of this helpful garden friend as she sipped nectar from Scarlet Runner blossoms. In addition to bees and other insects, hummingbirds play an important role in flower pollination. They are particularly attracted to flowers on the red side of the color spectrum (red, orange, pink), which is something I didn't consider at all when I planted the seeds. What an unexpected surprise. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Aaron and I spent a little time ...

Urban Grown: sod off

http://urbangrown.blogspot.com/2011/04/sod-off.html

Because locavores are people too. Friday, April 8, 2011. And what to do with so much sod? A question that will be asked many times in the near future, to be sure. For the moment, stack it high and wait until the answer divines itself. Next: roto-till, amend with compost and topsoil, plant! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Planting seeds and taking names. View my complete profile. Rain garden phase 3 and 4. Rain garden phase 1 and 2. Roll of the dice. And so it grows.

Noni Across America: Home (keep the vibes flying high)

http://noniacrossamerica.blogspot.com/2010/08/home-keep-vibes-flying-high.html

Because it beats having a real job. Home (keep the vibes flying high). Well the trip has lamentably concluded. Good (strange) to be home again. Leaving for the Big Island those months ago I could never have concieved that this is where/when/how I would end up. I've met with friends and assessed the current shape of the garden, starting making plans for "what's next" and am trying to stay upbeat about the future. What keeps me going. Just another WordPress.com weblog. September 9, 2008. Posted by urbangrowl under Uncategorized. Did something new this morning – drove off to the beach – our own Marina – rather than come to work. ALmost crashed the car – was such an unsual thing to do – mj going off track – just like that! 8217;tis just a couple of km from the office anyway. The sea was grey-green and the sands deep browny-red. Could have stood and watched the waves all day, like the chap on the catamaran – why was he there? Plenty of c...
