USA Basketball U17 - 2012. Saturday, June 30, 2012. Game 2: USA vs. Czech Republic. USA 95 - CZECH REPUBLIC 57. Today's game is scheduled at 1:30 (Iowa time 5:30 AM) so the TEAM did not go to the gym for a shoot around. The pre-game meal was breakfast at 10:00 with the TEAM meeting following. They watched clips of last night's game and discussed what needs to be done. They also watched clips of Czech Republic's game. Thanks Sam for the excellent job with the films! WAY TO GO TEAM USA! Let the Games Begin!

USA Basketball U17 - 2012. Monday, July 9, 2012. Leaving Lithuania with a Gold Medal! We attended the "friendship party" at the hotel for all the teams and staff, packed, and loaded the bus at 2:30 am. No time for sleeping. We arrived at the Vilnius airport at 4:00 for the 6:00 flight. After a 2 1/2 hour flight we had about a five hour lay-over in Frankfurt. Caroline interviewing Coach Showalter after the game. This is fun. The schedule today is similar to yesterday with USA playing China in the last game of the day. We receive a schedule every day from BJ that gives us the when, what and where of the day. USA Basketball U17 - 2012. Friday, July 6, 2012. A rest day on Thursday freed up the evening. After practice and films the players were treated to a meal out - chicken wings, etc. HAPPY Team USA! The staff were treated to a wonderful dinner out in Old Town. Town Hall was across the street from the restaurant. An evening out at Sadute's in old town. Iron work name plate for the restaurant. The history of the building was in the menu - one of the oldest buildings in Kaunas. Rye bread ice cream.

USA Basketball U17 - 2012. Monday, July 2, 2012. Then we headed outside to the basketball court and met the other youngsters. Everyone (USA players and youngsters) was shy at first. Team USA was wonderful - despite their comfort level they started introducing themselves to the kids and asking them to shoot baskets. At the one end of the court the littlest ones were attempting to make baskets and enjoyed getting lifted up for dunks. One asked if they could keep Beejay as a "toy"! Beejay doing an interview.

USA Basketball U17 - 2012. Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Game 4: USA vs France. USA 86 - France 50. Gold Standard # 2 - GREAT DEFENSE. This is the key to winning the gold. We do the dirty work. They do serve lots of fresh vegetable salads using green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. but the boys by-pass those. I have yet to get a brownie and I asked the players to save me one next time they appear. Team trainer Debi and team doctor Diane helping the players get ready for practice. Putting in a new defense.

We are all in Las Vegas tonight staying at the Wynn! Tomorrow we get to have breakfast with the Olympic Basketball Team and go to practice with them.
