Life and Death of a Queen. In 1947 STORIS was sent to the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, MD to remove many of her heavy armaments, including depth charge tracks and excess weapons. On September 12, 1948 the Coast Guard moved the STORIS's homeport to Juneau, Alaska. STORIS duties included law enforcement, fishery enforcement and search and rescue. Queen of the Fleet.

Life and Death of a Queen. STORIS has received fourteen different unit awards, several multiple times, to have a total of 47 awards. They are displayed in order of presentation. This award image represents the one that was displayed on the ship on 8 February, 2007, the day she was decommissioned. One (1) - Coast Guard Presidential Unit Citation with Hurricane Device. One (1) - Secretary of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award. Eight (8) - Coast Guard Unit Commendations. One (1) - American Campaign Medal.

Life and Death of a Queen. July 14, 1941 the keel was laid in Toledo, Ohio for a brand new Cutter. STORIS was designed by the U.S. Coast Guard with detail drawings by the Toledo Shipbuilding Company to be a supply ship with a degree of icebreaking capability for the waters around Greenland. The contract was let on 26 January 1941. Her design closely parallels the smaller 180-foot buoy tenders of 1942-1944. She was the first tender fitted with a double top-lift boom and is the only example of her class.

On that day the Coast Guard Cutter FIR was decommissioned making the STORIS the Oldest Commissioned Cutter in active service.
