Laquo; Surmise Surprise How NOT to Prepare a Sermon. Unbelievable: Preaching that Lacks Passion and Sincerity. Why Passion Leaves the Prayer Closet. The following testimony will sound condemnatory towards my. Off to college I went, still enchanted by the love of Christ. My cold heart was receptive to misguided zeal and incredible busy-ness. Those sweet seasons of communion I had enjoyed with my Savior were replaced by brief and obligatory moments of time that I had scratched out of my hectic college ...

Laquo; Why Passion Leaves the Prayer Closet. You Might Be a Bivocational Pastor If. Unbelievable: Preaching that Lacks Passion and Sincerity. To the average churchgoer, the Sunday sermon is the longest, most dreaded 30 minutes of the week. It has, for many, become a worthless formality between waking up Sunday morning and going to Cracker Barrel Sunday afternoon. Of course, no preacher hits a homerun every time he steps to the plate, and we all have those congregants who persist to nap, no matter how ent...

Carlisle's Comments: November 2009
http://edgarcarlisle.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 24, 2009. How To Determine God's Will. Paul wrote that we should understand what the will of God is for each of us. First, God's will is found in his Word. It begins with our being saved. Then we are to join a New Testament church. That is to be followed by biblical baptism. We are to have Godly homes. Titus 2:3-5; Eph. 5:22-26; Eph. 6:1-3). Enjoy fellowship in the church. Keep the world's evils out of our lives. Witness to the lost. Tithe our income. Learn our gifts and obey them.

Saturday, November 6, 2010. The Courage To Do Nothing. Let the economy solve its own problems. When governments try to prop up failing industries, they are really only delaying a necessary curative process. Malinvestment and inefficiency are the problems- the recession is the cure. Capitalism works! Bill Flax has written a great book urging a simple, but shocking, suggestion to government planners and economy wonks: have the courage to do nothing! Delivers the right solutions for our troubled times.

Carlisle's Comments: How Does God Cleanse Us Christians?
http://edgarcarlisle.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-does-god-cleanse-us-christians.html
Thursday, April 8, 2010. How Does God Cleanse Us Christians? When we accept Christ we may have much of this world with us. That depends upon what we have said before we have been saved. If we have lived a wicked life God has a lot to remove from us. But God changes us believers. God for one thing, prunes us. The word prune means to cut off the vine with pruning hooks. It depends on how much of the vine is pruned. God may just stop the use of some bad words. Other times God may, as I said above, deal ...

Carlisle's Comments: Stand Fast
http://edgarcarlisle.blogspot.com/2010/04/stand-fast.html
Tuesday, April 20, 2010. We are to stand fast in the Lord. As birds in the air, and as fishes are in the sea. We are to lean on the Lord. That whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;" (Phil. 1:27). When we accept Christ we believe the purity of God is in the place of our evil. We accept his holiness to replace our unholiness. We believers are, in Christ, made free from sin, fr...

Thursday, October 29, 2009. Three Things Must Occur. There are some things that if we neglect them it will not hurt. There are some things that if we neglect them we will pay for it. If we don't eat we will die. If we don't drink water we will die. We must protect ourselves as we drive or walk because we could be killed. We must protect ourselves from storms and tornadoes or we could be destroyed. There are three things that must be done to protect us in eternity. John 3:14 say,. Edgar C. Carlisle. While...
