June 28, 2011. There are two proteins that transport oxygen. Hemoglobin and Myoglobin. Binds oxygen at high O2 tension. Binds oxygen at low O2 tension. In other words, myoglobin binds oxygen in areas where hemoglobin releases it. Important bits and pieces. Carbon monoxide (CO) irreversibly. Binds heme in hemoglobin and myoglobin.
