One of the first ships to enter Japan's Tokyo Bay at the end of World War II was the destroyer Caperton (DD 650). Capps (DD-550) was launched 31 May 1942 by Gulf Shipbuilding Corp., Chickasaw, Ala. commissioned 23 June 1943, Lieutenant Commander B. E. S. Trippensee in command; and reported to the Atlantic Fleet. Capps received seven battle stars for World War 11 service.
