When I'm alone with the kids I usually refer something familiar, but had success on this trip doing both a familiar hike and a new hike. We crossed the bridge at Bridgeport and continued on the trail to a great rocky spot along the Dolores. Stopped here to play for a long time, it was a bit windy, but oh so beautiful. When t...

Our outdoor travel and adventures: hiking, camping, and vacations. Aug 18, 2014. Havasupai - August 2014. This place had been on the radar for quite some time, but always seemed such a big endeavor because of the distance to get there (Southern side of the Grand Canyon). After resting a bit we strolled about 3/4 mile down to Mooney Falls, which is also just as stunning as Havasu. This one required the infamous climb down a set of some really slippery rocks with nothing more than a slippier chain to h...

http://rootsoutdooradventures.blogspot.com/2015/01/alaska-2013-trip-day-5-thunderbird.html
Our outdoor travel and adventures: hiking, camping, and vacations. Jan 26, 2015. Alaska 2013 Trip Day 5: Thunderbird Falls, Eklutna Lake, and Anchorage. We went ahead with the plan for the hike. A short hike- just long enough to satisfy my hunger for a chunk of time spent walking, and short enough for the young ones to tolerate. Actually it fell totally short of the time I wanted to spend hiking but that was okay, I know my limits with a toddler : ). From there we drove just a little further into the par...

http://rootsoutdooradventures.blogspot.com/2015/01/alaska-2013-trip-day-4-hatcher-pass-and.html
Our outdoor travel and adventures: hiking, camping, and vacations. Jan 24, 2015. Alaska 2013 Trip Day 4: Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine. I think this was my favorite day of our trip and yet kind of hard to put into words. It wasn't just that the Hatcher Pass area was so beautiful- it was magical too it seemed, and from the sound of it, it's pretty magical for locals too, they all love it! We headed back to our cars and then debated making another stop. I'm so glad we did. I studied archaeolog...I'm p...
