Our House: November 2014
http://liddell6.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 24, 2014. For Veteran's Day we decided to go to Darmstadt. Only about 1/2 hour from where we live, Darmstadt was the capital of Hesse, which was an independent country until the formation of the German Empire in 1871. Side note, I recently read this. Article, and it mentions President Uchtdorf and his family lived in Darmstadt when the Berlin wall came down :). Here are some of the things we've seen so far. Wilhelminenplatz, with the Church of St. Ludwig in the background. We also notice...

Our House: February 2015

Monday, February 2, 2015. I propose that there are actually 5 seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall, Christmas Winter, and Ugly Winter. I seriously get excited for Christmas Winter every year, and I especially love a White Christmas. It's beautiful, it's festive, it's magical. Usually the temperature isn't too terrible, and you can actually enjoy the outdoors. Sledding and building snowmen, then drinking Hot Cocoa to warm up. It's a Winter Wonderland. Sunday, February 1, 2015. Joe and I had the opportunity to t...

Our House: May 2015

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Over Memorial Day weekend, Joe and I wanted to go explore Heidelberg. Our kids did not want to go walk around another boring town, looking at churches and castle ruins. What? Whatever, we went with out them. Who needs dumb kids anyway? Mark Twain wrote about Heidelberg castle, specifically the split turret (pictures below) in. Second is the Heidelberg Tun, the world's largest wine barrel. It was built in 1751 to hold all the wine that was paid as taxes from the local wine gro...

Tuesday, July 28, 2015. I Think My Arm Is Broken. On the 4th of July we were at a BBQ with friends, when Alex walked up to me, very calmly, but a little teary, and said, "I think my arm is broken". Based solely on his demeanor, I wouldn't have believed him, BUT his arm looked like this. Yesterday, which was 3 weeks later, we went back in to get a shorter cast put on, which will stay on for 1 more week. The same day Alex broke his arm, we had gone to a splash park earlier. Here Alex is, pre-broken arm, en...

Tuesday, July 21, 2015. I'm late posting this, but we DID celebrate Madelyn's birthday. Actually, back at the very end of May we had a COMBINED birthday party for Alex and Madelyn. Remember how we were supposed to have a party for Alex, and it kept getting later and later, and Madelyn kept reminding/bugging me about it? Well, I finally suggested that we do theirs together, and they actually thought it was a good idea. Phew! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). We are a military family, and proud of it!

Our House: December 2013
http://liddell6.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 25, 2013. I do so love this tradition :) Last year we had one of the stockings rip, and this year we couldn't find one, so these are new, but temporary stockings. I'm hoping to get some new ones in Germany next year! Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men. My version of a last-minute Christmas card. Better late than never? Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Nothing Could Go Wrong, Right? Kids in the brig. How many of these knots can YOU tie? She's queen of the world.

Thursday, February 13, 2014. Get Your Groove On. If you know me, then you might know that I love to dance. A lot. Really. A lot. It's very sad that my talent in this area does not equal my enthusiasm. I am not a good dancer. I think I mentioned once that I broke up with a guy because I didn't like the way he danced. It makes me cringe every time I think of it - not his dancing, but how dumb I was. Did you know that the first date Joe and I ever went on was Latin dancing? What society thinks I do. Deeper ...

Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Annie was right, the sun came out. Everything was going great today. Great breakfast. We cleaned the house. Babysat a cute little boy. I wasn't mad anyone or anything. Feeling good. Then I went to the dentist. And then my dentist got started. Even as I'm writing this, my heart is starting to beat faster, and my hands are shaking a little. I'm asking for gas next time. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Checked our finances, and we are not doing as good as we thought. (deep sigh)....Denti...

Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Denmark, Last Days and What We Loved. I loved the classic white churches. These are the kind of churches that my dad remembers seeing a lot of on his mission, although we didn't see that many in the more populated areas. And I have never seen such immaculately kept cemeteries, with the short hedges, and a plethora of flowers - so pretty and peaceful. On our last night in Denmark we stayed in Hvalso in a farm house. Inside the museum - here's Joe pretending to be interested.

Our House: June 2015

Tuesday, June 9, 2015. I had a great opportunity to chaperone a walking field trip of Wiesbaden with Cora and the 8th graders here. It was specifically focused on Jewish history and the Stolpersteine, or stumbling stones, around the city. I've mentioned the stumbling stones before on here, but I learned a few things, and I will talk more about those later. Our first stop was Gedenkort Schlachthoframpe. The trees are in sandstone holders inscribed with words from letters of the deportees. We also stopped ...
