My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Saturday, May 11, 2013. Quotable Claire and 3 Funny Girls. Mom, you're done growing, but you keep getting older and older and older and older.". How can you stop growing even though you still have birthdays? It's a mystery.". Mom, I love God and Jesus, but I like Jesus better, because he took our sins away.". Mom, God heals people, right? So does Jesus. They both have the same job.". Claire: Mom, if people die, they don't have Jesus' power.

my little corner of detroit: Solo Trip to Charleston
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/05/solo-trip-to-charleston.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Thursday, May 02, 2013. Solo Trip to Charleston. I was definitely ready for a return trip. We split two crepes - sweet and savory. I loved how the Farmer's Market was a collection of produce, upscale "crafts"/woodworking/jewelry/etc. and lots of fresh breakfast and lunch foods - as well as a few bounce houses for the kids. As much as I love Detroit's Eastern Market, this one was way more kid-friendly. Revisiting a Favorite - Folly Beach:.

my little corner of detroit: The Same -- But Different
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-same-but-different.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Saturday, March 30, 2013. The Same - But Different. Also, since 99.9 percent of the world finds it pretty much impossible to tell them apart, I thought they would take some comfort in knowing that they literally are made of the same genetic makeup. If you ask Steve and I, Claire or the grandparents - they'll tell you something about slightly different head shapes or point out the small mole next to Liza's hairline. Or "Eeew, gross, that's dis...

my little corner of detroit: The List
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-list.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Monday, April 08, 2013. The genesis of "The List" is uncertain. I think it was a gradual process starting in my early 20s - one or two items multiplied until the mound became a hefty pile of wouldn't-it-be-nice-if-God-could-fix-this. Once all of my problems - some of them mere inconveniences - were taken away, I could focus on being truly happy. There's something my four-year-old daughter Claire pitifully says when she doesn't get her way - "...

my little corner of detroit: The Swartz Circus
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-swartz-circus.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Saturday, June 01, 2013. There's a reason we've never hired a babysitter to put all three girls to bed. It requires intense multitasking - probably enough to make a teenager ignore any future calls. A few weeks ago, Steve described bedtime so accurately as our own version of the Barnum and Bailey Circus that it had me in tears (while Claire looked at me blankly, trying to figure out what was so funny). Let me explain. I can't believe it!

my little corner of detroit: Our Summer...In Photos
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/07/our-summerin-photos.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Friday, July 05, 2013. Our Summer. In Photos. Summer officially started for us when Claire graduated from preschool in late May. She'll be attending a little Lutheran school for kindergarten in the fall. Caroline said we actually have more in common with students who went there in the 60s and 70s, than those who graduated even a few years after us, in terms of the campus we remember. Since we've been back, I've been wearing not just earrings, ...

my little corner of detroit: Culinary Adventures
http://annamaeswartz.blogspot.com/2013/06/culinary-adventures.html
My little corner of detroit. Slices of Life in the Motor City. Monday, June 10, 2013. Part of my little galley kitchen. Making a pie with homemade crust for Grandpa. Almost everyday, I find myself texting a family member with photos of freshly baked breads or new meals. One day last week, Steve and Janie both had the same response: "Who are you? I don't exactly know either, but I'm liking her. And I hope she sticks around. Tonight's dinner: Tofu, veggie and sesame stir fry. Black bean quinoa burger.

salt & paper: July 2007
http://saltandpaper.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 28, 2007. Funny Little House in the Big Woods. I’ll just ask $12 a night. No, I like the sound of $10 better. It’s a nice, tidy, round sort of number. Let’s go with that.” Maybe there are people like that, but they don’t live in the state of New York. And usually that gushing is in direct proportion to how much you're forking over. So of course we had to take it. We ate pistachios and and listened to a reggae mix that Steve. When we were too slow to perform that last step (heading over to ...
