Vagabond Farmers

Vagabond Farmers are Chris Lincoln and Tammara Van Ryn of New Minglewood Farm in Greenwich, NY. Join us here as we travel across the continent on the classic American road odyssey. Monday, October 25, 2010. The hike required shoes with good traction and a bit of trust that you wouldn't slide straight down the face of the rock. Having travelled so far from Arches and Canyonlands, it didn't make any sense to go back to Utah, so we found ourselves with an unexpected and unplanned day in the Colorado Rockies...

Vagabond Farmers: September 2010

http://www.vagabondfarmers.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Vagabond Farmers are Chris Lincoln and Tammara Van Ryn of New Minglewood Farm in Greenwich, NY. Join us here as we travel across the continent on the classic American road odyssey. Friday, September 17, 2010. Moon Craters, Music, and Mystical Bliss. We enjoyed learning about the crazy geology and volcanic activity of the area. It gave a chance to stretch our legs and reinforce our desire to find a warm dry hotel room for the night. We reluctantly left the festival, although not too reluctantly, our next ...

Vagabond Farmers: Boundary Water Blow-out

Vagabond Farmers are Chris Lincoln and Tammara Van Ryn of New Minglewood Farm in Greenwich, NY. Join us here as we travel across the continent on the classic American road odyssey. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. This option allowed us to explore some of the local attractions such as Johnson Falls, located only three lakes and portages away from our campsite. It was a bit of work to get there, but definitely worth it. After cleaning up, we packed up the car and headed south to the Twin Cities to visit old fr...

Vagabond Farmers are Chris Lincoln and Tammara Van Ryn of New Minglewood Farm in Greenwich, NY. Join us here as we travel across the continent on the classic American road odyssey. Wednesday, September 1, 2010. No - we haven't been devoured. By grizzlies or blown off a mountain top - we have not been in touch lately because basically internet. Access on the road sucks! But alas, we are finally connected, at a dreadfully slow speed, but connected nonetheless. We continued the journey. But beautiful in its...

New Minglewood Farm: April 2015

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 14, 2015. On to the next chapter. The first of the training sessions is in a few weeks in North Carolina, near Ashville. It will be an intense week of study, but I am looking forward to learning new things and leap-frogging to some real springtime weather. Since I will be so close to the Smoky Mountains, Tammara will meet me after the course and we will go backpacking in the National Park! So, for now we are planning a big garden for ourselves and looking forward to lazy weekends. I en...

New Minglewood Farm: June 2014

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 29, 2014. No Minglewood Blues So Far. The excellent growing conditions have produced a lettuce glut here on the farm. It has grown so fast and large, there is no way our sales can keep up with the growth. I have had to skip over whole weeks of plantings to harvest lettuce that is not too big or past its prime. This is a bit sad, but at least the local food pantries have been well stocked with beautiful organic salad! We just tell them they should invite some friends over and share the love.

New Minglewood Farm: It's May

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2014/05/its-may.html

Monday, May 5, 2014. It's May, it's May, it's May! Friday was our first harvest of the season and everything went smoothly. Our new farm helper, Carly, picked up on the routines like an old hand, and appears to be a natural. Desiree, a four year Minglewood veteran, set a pace even I couldn't keep up with. It's always a pleasure to have experienced helpers returning to the farm. Cutting baby salad greens. First harvest of lettuce from the fieldhouse. Washing and packing for market. Saturday was a bit cool...

New Minglewood Farm: December 2013

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 27, 2013. Season's Greetings From New Minglewood Farm. It's the last week of December. this is my last chance to get a farm blog out for 2013! How does this happen? I had every intention of blogging this past season, but somehow other things just kept taking precedence. This is a good excuse to give a brief recap of the season, as well as, to wish all our friends, family, and customers a happy holiday season. The frame takes shape. March 20 - still lots of snow. The rains lightened up so...

New Minglewood Farm: October 2012

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Summer's Come and Gone. A rainy and wet harvest morning last week. Summer has come and gone, and autumn is marching on towards winter. This Saturday will be the last farmers' market of the season that we will attend. It is also the last outdoor market before things move back inside to the Division Street School for the winter season. Still lots of baby greens for mesclun. Last planting of lettuce in the field tunnel. Overall, we have had a great season and really can find lit...

New Minglewood Farm: October 2011

Thursday, October 20, 2011. Coming Up For Air. The other consequence of the storms was that it delayed the planting of the last of the fall crops by a couple of weeks, meaning they did not have much time to grow before the cooler weather set in. Fortunately, fall temperatures have remained fairly mild, so we have bean able to harvest some of these crops for our final markets. Aah breathe in. breathe out. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). New Minglewood Farm: May 2012

http://newminglewoodfarm.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 24, 2012. Wow, Memorial Day is upon us.does time speed up as you get older? Perhaps this is an example of the TPR principle- that's the Toilet Paper Roll principle: the closer it gets to the end, the faster it runs out. Regardless, the unofficial start of summer is this weekend, of course the astrological start isn't for another few weeks, so don't panic. Minglewood crew hard at work. Help- I'm drowning.". The spinach goes down. Fields so wet, the geese think it's a pond! We produce them in...

Vagabond Music Festival

Inaugural Vagabond Music Festival Postponed – New Dates TBA. 8212;——————-. We regretfully advise that the inaugural Vagabond Music Festival has been postponed until further notice. The reason for cancelling is that the number of tickets sold was far short of the numbers we needed to produce the event. We’ve received lots of feedback and found that the winter timing was less than ideal. It’s just too darn cold for most people. After four years working to launch this event I sincerely apologise for the inc...
