The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Day 4 on the Great Allegheny Passage. Ohiopyle to West Newton (43 miles). For most of the day our trail hugs the western shore of the Youghogheny River. We can hear the whistles, the clacking wheels, and the singing sounds of steel scraping steel as trains pass on the opposite shore, but the trees are so thick between us that we usually cannot actually see the trains. This is a Connellsville Bike Shop- would you rent this bike? We stop for ...

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings: September 2012

http://vagabondglovers.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Friday, September 28, 2012. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Heading Home from the Silver Comet/Chief. September 23, 2012. Since we are not riding our bicycles today, we have plenty of time for a back roads adventure on the way home. I search the I-Pad for ideas, and come up with one of our best lunch breaks ever- Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café. The neighbor across the street from the Police Station has erected this police station, which win...

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings: Urban in the Morning, Rural in the Evening

http://vagabondglovers.blogspot.com/2014/09/urban-in-morning-rural-in-evening.html

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Monday, September 1, 2014. Urban in the Morning, Rural in the Evening. Pittsburgh to Laurelville, PA. Our explorations begin with a boat tour of Pittsburgh, cruising the three rivers in the center of the city- the Monongahela and the Allegheny which converge to create the headwaters of the Ohio. It is a beautiful sunny day, the waterfront is alive with bikers and walkers on paths and in parks along the shores, and kayakers and paddle boarders plying the waters. After lu...

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings: August 2013

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Saturday, August 17, 2013. August 15, 2013. Cape Charles, VA to Savannah, GA. It's a long way and a long day, but we are happily home once again. August 14, 2013. The highlight of today is a visit to our boating buddies, Roxanne and Lennie, who we think of often, but have seen just once since we all finished the Great Loop. They live in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, in a home with panoramic views of the marsh and Rehobeth Bay beyond. Our room is a pleasant surprise- extreme...

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings: Day 3 on the Great Allegheny Passage

http://vagabondglovers.blogspot.com/2014/09/day-3-on-great-allegheny-passage.html

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Monday, September 1, 2014. Day 3 on the Great Allegheny Passage. Rockwood to Ohiopyle (33 miles). We are glad that our Road Scholar GAP trip substituted a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water house for the “white water rafting” included in past Road Scholar GAP offerings after seeing many rafts lazily drifting down the shallow river with passengers frying in the sun, and people in duckies trying to pull their little inflatables off rocks. The Falls at Ohiopyle.

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings: Three Great States

http://vagabondglovers.blogspot.com/2010/07/three-great-states.html

The Vagabond Glovers' Meanderings. Tuesday, July 13, 2010. July 11, 2010. Brewer, Maine to Montpelier, Vermont. Today we pack three states in one classic road trip day! It begins with our complimentary breakfast of waffles with wild blueberry syrup at the Vacationland Inn. We make a slight detour into downtown Bangor. To see what is reputed to be the largest Paul Bunyan statue in the world. Our next roadside attraction is the Skowhegan Indian. We can’t resist a stop in Rumford, Maine. Dick charts a littl...

Project Fear | Frightful delightful films.

Remember back when horror movies were actually made really well, with good acting and good locations and good scripts and good stories? Conclusion: 10. Everything about this film is good. If you have a problem with black and white film, you might dislike this film. Also, it makes one’s skin crawl terribly. It is horrifying while being thought provoking. I highly recommend it as one of the best horror films I have ever seen, but I caution that it is not for the easily frightened viewer. July 17, 2011.

Vagabond Gourmand

A word of thanks…. June 1st, 2015. At last the warmth of May surrounds us, and we are in the midst of blossoms…. From the vagabond’s blue balcony, I look out over climbing jasmine and rampant roses that scent the air. It is a time lush with potential, a moment to savor and reflect. And it is time to close the vagabondgourmand chapter, after many years – many good moments of sharing discoveries on the road and at the table. French Fairs and Festvals.
