Training articles and information dealing with judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, submission wrestling, self-defense, and strength and conditioning. Saturday, November 13, 2010. It seems that in many dojos the practice of standup techniques has fallen out of fashion. Oftentimes there is a reluctance to train them out of an unwarranted fear of injury, or just as common, the training environment to develop them is insufficient. Train for competition. Do not have a competition every time you train. Bridge the gap b...

A blog about Jiu-Jitsu, the universe, and everything. Video Review – Arm Triangles by Ryan Hall →. June 6, 2014. Our friends over at the Valhalla Academy. Have a tradition known as “birthday rounds.” On their birthday, a student gets to spend the entire class grappling non-stop with fresh partners rotated in regularly to keep the pressure on. Even though we don’t follow this tradition at 4 Seasons. Overall, it wasn’t a bad way to celebrate turning 50. Hydrate early and often. I started guzzling water and...

For all levels of Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling. Thursday, February 28, 2013. Teaching Jiu Jitsu to Kids. So if you find yourself working with kids or someone who requires more attention than you're used to, don't get frustrated and be patient. Try to remember that they need to have fun and that they learn differently than you do. Grip - Gi Pull-Ups. There has b...

http://jiujitsugrit.blogspot.com/2013/03/de-la-riva.html
For all levels of Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling. Monday, March 11, 2013. Ricardo de La Riva Goded. When looking through the list of Carlson Gracie Black Belts. On the BJJ Heroes. Site part of a name jumped out at me. A term we are all familiar with "De La Riva" from Ricardo de La Riva Goded. I always thought "de la riva" meant "of the river" and was named that because there was some affiliation with how your legs resemble a river while in the de la riva guard. What do I know? Jiu-Jitsu Grit: Sticking with Martial Arts
http://jiujitsugrit.blogspot.com/2013/03/sticking-with-martial-arts.html
For all levels of Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Sticking with Martial Arts. Nope - no bias here. But I stuck with it and began to learn how to manipulate someone on the ground to make them cry for their mama - it was like someone flipped a switch and I was hooked. So, if you decide to take up any martial art and the novelty wears off, try to stick with it long enough to see the benefits - you'll thank yourself later! Refer to previous post ".
