Scotch Drammer: Slummin' It with J&B Rare Blended Scotch
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2012/12/slummin-it-with-j-rare-blended-scotch.html
Sunday, December 23, 2012. Slummin' It with J&B Rare Blended Scotch. Review: J&B Rare Blended Scotch. NAS, 40% ABV. J&B "Rare" is of course anything but rare. I've been in hole in the wall bars that don't even carry Johnnie Walker, the best selling Scotch whisky on earth, but manage to somehow have J&B. Why? The proportion of grain is not broadly advertised.I've often heard that 40% single malt is typical of most blends, though I have no reference on that. Nor is the age broadly advertised, thoug...The g...

Scotch Drammer: Ardbeg 10, Old and New
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2011/10/ardbeg-10-old-and-new.html
Sunday, October 2, 2011. Ardbeg 10, Old and New. I recently opened a newer bottle of Ardbeg 10 and found it did not live up to my previous tasting. It seemed much maltier and younger than I remembered without as much of the wonderful mouth-feel or apple notes. It still has great smoke and peat though, and I would guess I'd grade this bottle out at about an 89. October 3, 2011 at 1:10 PM. October 5, 2011 at 7:49 PM. Ralfy has been forcasting the reduction in quality for the last couple years. The Whisky E...

Scotch Drammer: Review: Slummin' It with Johnnie Walker (Red and Black)
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2012/12/review-slummin-it-with-johnnie-walker.html
Monday, December 17, 2012. Review: Slummin' It with Johnnie Walker (Red and Black). Ever since I discovered single malts in my mid 20's, I've taken a dim view of Johnnie Walker. Turned my nose in the air at the notion of drinking a dirty blended whisky, and indeed, hadn't had a sip of the stuff in over ten years. However, in the spirit of working my way through the world of blends, well, it had to come to this, didn't it? Johnnie Walker Red Label. NAS, 40 % ABV. Not long after the Cutty Sark experiment.

Scotch Drammer: Review: Bunnahabhain 12
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2012/12/review-bunnahabhain-12.html
Friday, December 21, 2012. Strength: 46.3 %. Some whisky lines, like superhero movie franchises, occasionally need a reboot. A couple of years ago, Bunnahabhain was in such need. The flagship 12-year-old expression was a C grade mediocrity: an Islay whisky without peat, mouth-feel, or much character. My notes for that bottling suggested some mild pepper but otherwise that it lived up to the label's "gentle" (i.e. "boring") billing. December 22, 2012 at 9:54 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Scotch Drammer: Review: Bunnahabhain 18
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2012/12/review-bunnahabhain-18.html
Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Occasionally the New Hampshire State Liquor stores ridiculously under-price a Scotch. My theory is that someone on the liquor commission has Scotch-drinking friends and hooks them up, since usually these are "one-time buys" that are in stock for only a few weeks. Of course, since I regularly monitor the store's offerings, I get hooked up too. One such stroke of fortune was the Bunny 18, which wine searcher. I gave Oban 18. A few extra points for what I thought was a unique m...

Scotch Drammer: Review: Bunnahabhain Toiteach
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2013/02/review-bunnahabhain-toiteach.html
Thursday, February 14, 2013. Bunnahabhain is the self-described "gentle" whisky of Islay, so the peated Toiteach (meaning smoky) is a big departure for the distillery. The label intimates a light peat by inquiring: "What if a touch of smoke from our peated malted barley was introduced in the distillation process? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Scotch Drammer: Review: Glen Moray 12
http://www.scotchdrammer.com/2012/04/review-glen-moray-12.html
Sunday, April 1, 2012. Review: Glen Moray 12. Malts and surprisingly decent. Glen Moray is an old distillery, founded in 1897 in Elgin, Speyside, on the site of a former brewery. Owned for a period by Glenmorangie, the distillery used to feature malts finished in white wine casks, Chardonnay. Though sadly, since the company was sold, they seem to have discontinued the practice, which is a shame, since this malt would play very well with a dry white wine. Whisky Review – Compass Box Asyla « whiskeywriter
https://whiskeywriter.wordpress.com/2012/05/12/whisky-review-compass-box-asyla
A blog where I write a lot, sometimes about whiskey. Whisky Review – Compass Box Asyla. By The Headless Axeman. Apologies for the lack of recent posts. I have no excuse. I’m lazy. Here’s hoping this post begins a run of regular posts. It’s no fun starting every post with an apology for lack of activity. Had named Compass Box’s Great King Street. As their Blended Whisky of the Year. Perhaps not the most scientific reasoning, but hey, things happen for a reason. Right? Let’s go to the tasting notes. I̵...
